Cultural Day Vibes

Introduction

As I walked through the gate of Patfon schools, my eyes got the photographers first. Their backdrop was set to capture the beautiful moments of children and guardians. Ankara was everywhere and I loved it because it was in uniform representing different tribes. The sellers were not left out, popcorn was all my eyes could see, toys, buns, juice drink and a lot more. Funny enough, the smell of the popcorn, that vanilla flavor was giving, it followed me to the center of the event 😅
It was "Patfon schools cultural day," my sister had left before me, she represented Hausa tribe.

Into the Event Center

I was welcomed at the center of the event, canopies were filled with pupils and students from different tribes, six Nigerian and two African tribes.
There tribes were:

  • Ibibio
  • Annang
  • Oron
  • Igbo
  • Yoruba
  • Hausa
  • Republic of Congo and
  • Ghana

They were so colorful and beautiful in their different cultural wear. They teachers, pupils and students of Republic of Congo and Ghana did so well in representing those two African countries in their cultural wear, their presentation about the country's culture, dancing steps and their food presentation. Republic of Congo were the 'best in food presentation' and was awarded.

In all cultural displays, the presentation I loved most was the Hausa dance. It was so simple and well arranged, and their music was topnotch. Their heads did so well dressing the girls in black gowns and white hijabs, and the boys in white kaftans with caps. They all look so beautiful.

After the presentations on the history of the tribes, their language and their food. Parents and teachers were not left out to showcase their dancing steps too😊 Do you want to see a video of my dancing steps?
Do you really believe I danced?
I didn't o😅 Fathers fall my hands, it was only the Mothers that took the dance floor.

At the end of all the merriment, awards were presented:

  • Best in dressing: Igbo tribe
  • Best in dance: Annang tribe and
  • Best in food presentation: Congo tribe

Then for top 3 best:

3rd position - Hausa

Jubilation was in the air. They were awarded with cups.

I enjoyed myself at Patfon schools cultural day. It was a success.

Lessons I Learned From This Cultural Day

Aside from the fun. I could see how pupils, students and teachers were united despite their different tribes. Some children's behavior took me back to when I was their age, so innocent in how the presented themselves. It was so lovely reflecting on those nice memories.

We live in a world of prejudice and tribalism. But I strongly believe there will be a time all nations will be united as one, the same way pupils, students, parents and teachers were united in this memorable event of showcasing Africa to the world.
