My simple unripe plantain recipe

INTRODUCTION

It is another time to participate in this interesting contest and I extend my heartfelt pleasantries to everyone here in this community. Coming across this weekly exercise has always been endearing me to be on a constant thought of ideas to participate in contests hosted here.

Some of the time, in order to show how good that I could be to prepare food, one of the motive is to acquaint myself with some basic cooking skills. Now taking part in this food challenge contest, is to underline the fact that the kitchen is not gender sensitive. This is because, hunger is not gender sensitive. So I see as a normal thing to at least once in a while, walk into the kitchen and make some foods that does not require too much things to get it done.

Today in this contest, I present to everyone here, one of the simplest food that doesn't cost much, and doesn't take time to prepare to prepare it. Ladies, gentlemen and kids, I hereby present to you all this delicious unripe plantain recipe.

Plantain is one of the staple food in most homes. In the eastern part of Nigeria where I come from, it is a popular food made in various homes. Plantain could be prepared in three different ways as food by:

  • Boiling
  • Purage and
  • Frying
These can be done whether they are ripe or unripe. It depends on personal choice but for me whether ripe or unripe doesn't matter.

While frying or boiling may it be easier and fast to get it done as food, making it purage may take a little longer time to get it done as food.

On the contrary, to get the sweetest taste of plantain, making it purage becomes an option even though it may require more ingredients and time to get it done.

As it could be seen that what I have here is the boiled plantain with stew that garnished it, let me describe how I prepared the food.

The first step I took is cut down the plantains from my farm and bring down. I immediately took the few I could eat and cut into two equal halves.

Secondly, after cutting into two equal halves, I washed them and then poured into the pot two cups of water and then put on the fire.

While the plantain boils, I added 1½ table spoon of salt and allowed it to boil for about fifteen minutes after which I brought it down.

The next thing I did is prepare the stew or sauce for it. Here I got some few fresh tomatoes cut them and grinded.

I got the onions, pepper, one seasoning cubes and one tablespoon of salt ready.

Interestingly, and to give me the natural taste of a local food, I got fifty meals of red oil and poured in to fry.

Placing the oil to get heat at about two minutes, I started to pour in the tomatoes, onions pepper salt, and seasoning cubes. Guess what? a great aroma for a good taste was gotten after ten minutes of cooking.

This is simple, easy to make food with less cost but nutritious food to make.

Parents and kids you will agree with me that plantain is not such food that should be missing in our food menu. Whichever a way you choose to prepare it, except for certain health reasons for those who may not like frying it, plantains have the required vitamins and minerals that nourishes the body and keep the family healthy.

How do you prefere to prepare plantains as food? Is it by boiling, purage or frying ? Let's share know your thoughts as we learn together.
