When we are individuals talk about heroes we could sometimes sting of those who are famous and Rich or sometimes those who get a lot of attention has those who do amazing things. My hero doesn't need any of these qualities because he's my father who will never looked for attention. He does not wear a costume or stand on a stage to get applause. He never thought he should get treatment. My father has always been the person who helps me with every step of my life. Now that I look back I see that the things I believe in today were not taught to me by my father giving speeches. Instead he taught me these things by what he does every day.

When I was a kid I thought my father knew everything. If something broke at home he fixed it. If I was scared he made me feel safe. If I failed at something he never let me think that one mistake would determine my future. My father was always very calm even when things got tough. At the time I did not know how stress he was under. All I saw was the smile on his face when he came home and the nice things he said to me at dinner.

One thing that I remember clearly is this;

I was ten years old when my father said he would take me to a football field near our house on a Saturday evening. I had been talking about that day for a week because I loved football. Then it started raining just before we were going to leave. I was very disappointed. I just sat by the window watching the rain ruin our plans.

A minutes later my father came outside with an old football. My dad did not let the rain stop us from having fun rather he asked me to come out with him so we could play out in our compound we were just kicking the ball all in the rain and in the moment also laughing and sleeping on the wet ground. And I can still remember seeing my mom standing beside the door and shaking her head try not to laugh at us because we got covered in the mud while playing. When we were done we enter the house completely soaked in mud but I was happier than ever.

That evening while we were drying our clothes my father said something that I have never forgotten. He said: "Life will not always be perfect. Sometimes you have to make your happiness." At the time I just smiled.. Years later I finally understood what he meant. Life has been tough sometimes. Things have not always gone as planned.. My fathers words have helped me to keep going. Whenever things seem unfair I remember that day. I tell myself that happiness is something that I can create, not just something that I find.

As I got older I started to see the things that my father did for us without complaining. There were times when he did not buy things for himself so that we could have what we needed. He worked hours without saying anything. Even when he was tired he still asked me about my schoolwork encouraged me to follow my dreams and reminded me that it is better to be honest than to succeed by cheating.

What I think is amazing about fathers is that they do not usually talk about the things they do for their families. They just keep doing them every day. Their love is often hidden behind the things they do to take care of us the rules they make for us and the hard work they do. We may not always hear them say "I love you ". We see it in the early mornings when they go to work the late nights when they are solving problems and the many decisions they make for our good.

Today when I have to make decisions I often ask myself: "What would my father do?" This question helps me to stay focused.
The Patience that my dad had reminded me to always be strong in difficult moments he's honesty had enabled me to be great person. How humble my dad is reminds me that real greatness doesn't just come from being rich and famous but that it lies in the things we do for those we care about.

If I could go back to one day from my childhood it would be that day when we played football. It was not about the game. It was about my father teaching me that happiness is not cancelled by weather and that love is sometimes about getting wet just to see your child smile.

To me a father is more than a parent. He is a guide, a protector, a teacher and the strong base on which my dreams are built. As time goes on the things my father taught me keep getting stronger.

Thank you Dad, for all the things you did for me that I did not even notice for all the lessons I did not understand until I was grown up and for all the moments you made special for me. Your greatest gift, to me was not what you gave me. The person you helped me to become.
