It is quiet important we note how to handle babies because certain things can stress your baby without you knowing. So here are list of things to ensure as a mom;

👶Shaking baby
This involves bouncing, Jerking, or move your newborn, often times, out of frustrãtion or to wake them. Even a “gentle” shaking can actually cause them brain injury, bleeding, or worse than these, and this is called "shaken baby syndrome".

What to do
Ensure to always handle your baby gently. If you're actually frustrated, put the baby safely in the crib and go away for few minute to calm down.

👶Over-bundling
This involves dressing your baby in numerous layers of clothe or blankets to keep them warm.” Most especially during cold session, some mom(s) paddle their newborn with too many clothes, causing them discomfort. When there is an overheating, it increases the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), and can cause sweating or rash.

What to do
Use one layer more than you are wearing, check their neck/back for warmth. Keep the room comfortably warm, not hot.

👶Ignoring tummy time
Skipping the supervised time on the baby’s tummy while awake. Tummy time strengthens the neck, shoulder, and arm muscles of the baby and prevents flat head syndrome; and also elevates motor skill development.

What to do:
Start with 2–3 minutes in 2–3 times daily. It gradually increases as your baby grows. Always supervise or watch them closely.

👶Late feeding cues
This entails, waiting until the baby cries for food. Crying indicates a late hunger sign. Long waiting can make your baby upset, harder to feed, and stressed.

What to do:
Watch out for early cues, such as rooting (turning head toward breast), sucking of hands, lip smacking. Feed them promptly to keep baby calm.

👶Wrong sleeping position
This involves placing the baby on the stomach, side, or unsafe surfaces like couches or adult beds. Stomach sleeping could actually increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), soft surfaces and loose bedding can also cause suffocation.

What to do:
Endeavor to always place baby on their back, on a firm, flat mattress in a bassinet or crib, with no pillows, blankets, or toys.

Mum(s) we can always do better, learning never ends. The best for our children, thar is all we seek🤜👍
