The christening of my son, was one of the most meaningful and heartfelt moments of my life. It was a day filled with gratitude, faith, and quiet joy, a day to celebrate but not marked by loud celebration, but by love, purpose, and deep gratitude to God for leading us through the journey. From the very beginning, I knew I wanted the ceremony to be simple and personal, shared only with those who truly matter to us.

We made a conscious decision to invite only close friends and family members. This choice made the day to remain intimate and deeply spiritual, free from distractions or pressure to impress. Everyone present had played an important role in our lives and, in one way or another, would be part of Tobechukwu’s journey as he grows. Having them there made the occasion feel warm, genuine, and complete.

The christening itself was beautiful and solemn. As Tobechukwu was dedicated before God, I felt a profound sense of responsibility and gratitude. His name, rich in meaning, we decided to call him Tobechukwu meaning praise God in Igbo language. Apart from that name our parents had their own names they called him, my Dad called him Ikenna (the power of God) while my mom called him Fruitful (I understand why she did 😉). My wife's mother called him mkpoto meaning favored in ibibio I hope I got that right? It was a reminder that parenthood is not only about providing, but about guiding, nurturing, and raising a child with strong values, faith, and love.

After the ceremony we gathered in a relaxed setting to share a meal and some bottles of understanding with heartfelt conversations. There was laughter, storytelling, and moments of quiet reflection. Because the gathering was small, everyone had the opportunity to truly connect, holding Tobechukwu, praying for him, and speaking words of blessing and encouragement over his life.

Looking back, I am grateful we kept the christening of my son Tobechukwu Wealth Chike Ndu, small and intentional. It allowed us to focus on the true purpose of the day: dedicating our son to God and surrounding him with love from the very beginning of his life. It was a gentle, memorable start to his spiritual journey and one I will always cherish.
