Greetings to you all and compliments of the season. It's a beautiful week, and I hope you all are doing very well. I am @emmaboy23 from Nigeria, and I shall be sharing my creativity with you all. Creativity becomes most meaningful when it is shaped by effort, patience, and passion. For this week’s contest titled New Contest Week 89 // Let’s do it… Do It Yourself 👉 Crafts, creativity, drawing, origami, DIY, recycling, and more, organized by @mesola, inspired me to create a realistic pencil portrait inspired by the well-known actor Will Smith. This artwork reflects my love for hand-drawn portraiture and my commitment to improving my skills through consistent practice and careful observation. I hope you all like it. Below are the steps I took in creating this drawing.

Step 1

I began with the eyes because they play a major role in capturing likeness. I carefully shaped them, paying attention to their size, angle, and placement. From there, I moved on to the nose.

Step 2

Next were the lips, using my 2B pencil. I carefully drew and shaded the lips and lightly sketched the mustache as well.

Step 3

Next I started shading the face. Shading played a crucial role in bringing the portrait to life. I used controlled pencil pressure to build smooth transitions between light and shadow. Rather than rushing, I layered tones slowly, especially around the cheeks, jawline, and forehead, to give the face realistic depth.

Step 4

Next I focused on the beard and hair. For the beard and hair, I used darker strokes and short lines to create texture and depth, making sure they stood out without overpowering the facial structure.

Step 5

Next I sketched the neck and his clothing, then I applied shading where necessary.

Step 6

In this final step, I refined my entire drawing and carefully added contrast where necessary and darker lines too.

This drawing reminded me why DIY creativity is so powerful. With only basic materials and dedication, I was able to transform a blank sheet into a meaningful piece of art. Every correction, shadow, and line taught me something new about patience and observation. I truly appreciate @mesola for organizing a contest that encourages artists to explore, practice, and proudly share their DIY skills. I hope my entry inspires others to embrace their creative abilities and enjoy the rewarding process of making art by themselves, for themselves, and for the community. Thanks everyone, and bye for now.

Your attention to detail is outstanding. The expression feels so natural and lifelike. This giving the drawing a real sense of personality. The way you handled. It shows a great understanding of depth and form. Your work is truly impressive. I can see the skill and effort that went into every part of your piece.
