The Diary Game: || GOING TO THE MARKET WITH MY WIFE, ASSISTING HER TO COOK AND OTHER ENGAGEMENTS || 9/1/2026

I am always delighted to share my day on this platform. It's the best diary to archive daily documentaries of one's activities without anyone abusing your mistakes and inabilities.

My day was quite engaging and fun at the same time. Taking joy from my pupils at school until the time my wife and I went to the market to buy foodstuffs and came back to cook together. It was the real two-together because since we got married two years ago, we have not gone to the market together. She bought it while I was holding the bag. But then let's see through other engagements as we give details with many photos of each scene to help you participate in our day.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY

  • We prayed together in the morning.
  • I went to school.
  • I got a call to come to church and pick up the 2026 Bible Study Guide.
  • I went to the market with my wife. We cooked the food together, and ate together.

At School

MORNING

The morning bell sounded through the digital device, not the olden days using the big church bell to wake the entire community for morning in church. This time, our phone is set to ring the bell, and we observe devotion at home. I might have battled with sleep, but prayer is a necessity. With the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria devotional guide (January 09),

Devotional Guide
we prayed with the topic REJOICE IN THE LORD ALWAYS, having its text from Philippians 4:4-8. This is a prison epistle of Paul to the Philippians encouraging them to rejoice in God no matter the situation. He further told them to be anxious for nothing but rather pray, and He will meet all our needs. In verse 8, Paul gave his final submission toward moral living, saying:

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.


This is where believers should study between the lines and live to please God.

After the morning prayers I prepared my son for school, but his mother had to take him to their campus while I moved to Ewet Housing. Before 8am I was in school, where we had a solemn assembly until 9am. I was informed to pick up the 2026 Bible Study Guide from the headquarters of our church for our congregation at Use Offot.

I was there to pick it up; my wife came, and we went home together. While we were in the keke (tricycle) going home, my wife was telling me that she's tired but needed to go to the market and get some foodstuffs for and prepare editan soup. I told her not to worry, “I am coming to the market.” She didn't believe it because I rarely go to the market except when you want me to stand at one spot and buy everything without dragging the price tag on the goods.

AFTERNOON

We were expecting our son to be back from school by 2pm; therefore, we had to rush at about 11:48am. I changed the white and white clothes that I wore into a simple T-shirt, and here we go. The market was strange to me. The market women were calling us from every corner to buy from them; I kept telling them, “Na my wife dey lead me o” 😃 😀. She started pricing and buying while I followed her with the black sack bag in my hand, looking at everything as much as my eyes could see. After we bought all we needed, we went to sharpen the knives for slicing editan leaves for cooking.

The Pictorial Excerpts of my busy market with my wife

Urua Akpan Andem (Akpan Andem Market) is one of the biggest and most famous markets in the capital of Akwa Ibom State, selling every day. We only went through the grocery sections and filled the bag as itemised on our list.

Getting to the house, it was about 1:27pm; my wife arranged for cassava flakes with groundnuts, and we regained strength before preparing to cook editan soup. While she was parboiling the meat, fish and other ingredients for the soup, I was selecting the editan leaves and waterleaf.

EVENING

Next was to start slicing the leaves, which my wife joined me to slice with her own tray. The preparation was faster, and we finished the cooking in the evening. After eating the food at around 4:56pm, I rested and used the rest of the evening to design a church flyer for an event holding on 18 January, 2026. The later part of the evening until the time we went to bed there was no electricity, making it boring with excessive heat.

WHAT STOOD OUT FOR MY DAY

  1. Carrying the bag for my wife to buy food items taught me how hard it is to manage and buy things in the market with this hard economy. I will never blame her for returning late from market again.
  2. The bag would have been too heavy for her to carry, having been put into a family way by me.
  3. The market women were telling her not to price low because she is walking with the man of the house. I think men should not be frequent in the market. Give your wife credit; she knows more than you.
