TEETHING

Teething in babies means the process when a baby’s first teeth start to come through the gums. This usually begins around 4–7 months of age, though it can happen earlier or later.
Watching Tobechukwu go through his teething process has been one of the most emotional phases of my motherhood journey. Nothing truly prepares you for the moment you realize your baby is in pain and all he needs is you. From the constant drooling to the restless nights, I could see the discomfort written all over his little face, and my heart ached every time he cried.

WATCHING MY SON IN PAIN

It started quietly, unusual fussiness, clenched gums, and his tiny hands reaching for anything he could chew. Soon, sleep became difficult for both of us. Tobechukwu would wake up crying, seeking comfort, and I held him close, whispering soothing words, hoping my arms could ease the pain his gums were going through. Some days felt long and exhausting, but my love for him kept me strong.

TRIED EVERYTHING

tried everything I could to bring him relief, teething toys, gentle gum massages, and endless cuddles. Even in his discomfort, Tobechukwu showed so much strength. There were moments when his tears fell, and I wished I could take the pain away from him. Seeing my baby struggle reminded me how deep my love runs and how protective I am of him.

PRESCRIPTION

I remembered one of those nights his dad suggested we used ice blocks on him but he ended up catching cold at the end of it but that's a story for another day actually. My childhood friend Imebong who's a nurse was very helpful as if call her at odd hours seeking advice on what to do. She'd prescribe drugs and talk me through on how to administer them.

TEETH PUSHING OUT

Then came the moment I felt that tiny tooth pushing through. It was such a small thing, yet it felt like a huge victory. All the sleepless nights, the worry, and the tears suddenly made sense. Tobechukwu was growing, and I was growing with him, learning patience, resilience, and unconditional love.

CONCLUSION
Tobechukwu’s teething journey hasn’t been easy, but it has been deeply meaningful. It has taught me that motherhood isn’t just about joyful moments; it’s also about standing strong for your child during the hard ones. Through every cry and every smile, this experience has drawn us closer, and it’s a chapter of our story I will always hold close to my heart.
