WHY DO BABIES CRY?

Crying is a verbal mode of communication commonly used by babies to express themselves. Sometimes it is normal, Other times it is abnormal and can be a signal of distress. The reasons why babies cry include:

  1. The first cry of a baby is a response to the change of environment i.e from the mother's womb to the exterior. While the baby is crying, the parents and hospital staff are happy. This aids in the expansion of the lungs of the newborn and in the absence of this cry, effort is made to stimulate the baby to cry in order to prevent respiratory distress in the near future that occurs due to failure of the lungs to expand.

    when the baby needs the attention of the mother, crying is an effective means of calling for it. They can also cry when they feel lonely.
