Hello, my dear Steemians, trust you are all doing okay. It's nice to be participating in this contest again. And I will be talking about motion sickness today. This sickness has affects many people, including adults, children and the elderly.
What is motion sickness, and how does it affect people while travelling?

Motion sickness is a condition that occurs when the brain receives signals from the eyes, ears and body about movement.

For instance, if you are pressing your phone in a moving car, your eyes only see a stationary screen while your body and ears feel the motion of the vehicle.

This confuses the brain and can lead you to symptoms like headaches, nausea, sweating and even vomiting. Motion sickness can affect anyone, children, adults or elderly ones, and this has nothing to do with eating healthy or not.

This sickness always happens on bus trips, car rides, plane flights, and even on amusement park rides. It makes every travel and trip so stressful.

It makes a sweet short journey feel so overwhelming and makes you feel discomfort throughout the trip. Apart from the discomfort that it brings, motion sickness can affect your mood and won't allow you to enjoy travelling.

Imagine being in a car with your friends while everybody is cracking jokes and excited about the trip, but you, on the other hand, are quietly battling with your life because you don't want to embarrass yourself.

Motion sickness is not just a temporary discomfort but a joy killer that doesn't want you to enjoy travelling.

What types of movement usually trigger motion sickness?

It can be triggered in a situation where the body senses movement but the brain receives signals that do not correspond to what is happening.

Like I said above this happens during bus and car rides, plane flights, and riding on a train, and even playing virtual reality games can cause motion sickness for sensitive people.

Another interesting part about motion sickness is that it can be inherited also if one of your family or grandparents experiences it, there is a possibility you may inherit it also.

What makes it even worse is sitting in a tight place in a car, looking down for a long time, pressing your phone without looking up, sitting in a place where the window is not open while travelling, and travelling on rough or bumpy roads.

Any motion movement can trigger motion sickness even if it's a 10-minute ride, it can make the ride overwhelming.

Simple ways people cope with or reduce motion sickness?

There are simple ways to cope with or reduce motion sickness:

  • Don't sit in a tight place: Seating in a tight place while travelling will make your travelling uncomfortable.

  • Sit in the front seat or beside the window: if you know you can't sit beside the window, ensure you sit in the front seat so as to make you feel more stable.

  • Get fresh air: opening the window of the ride or stepping outside will help reduce nausea.

  • Don't read or use your phone while in motion: doing this will help prevent your brain from getting confused and stop receiving signals between your eyes and inner ear.

  • Eat light meals before travelling: heavy foods can make you vomit, especially if the roads are rough or bumpy.

  • Wear loose clothes; wearing tight clothes can make the symptoms worse. Wear clothes that will allow air into your body. If you are a lover of trousers, you can loosen the zip or button a little bit so you won't vomit.

  • Keep your head still and focus: always sit upright and reduce your head movements; look at the road sometimes, it really helps.

Practicing all these simple steps will really help to reduce discomfort and make the trips more fun and not stressful.
