How The Rift Grow

If you are having young kids, aged 3 to 5 or 9. Always eager to tell you what happened at school, who did or said and how. Mummy do you know my teacher gave me a smiling face? Daddy do you know Ekemini said I am his best friend... Daddy, why do fathers go to work all the time?

That is when your kid is learning at an amazingly high speed; their brain is open, like a sponge, they soak in all information and are ready to be moulded into who they will be when they grow up.

It is also during these formative years that your kids look up to and depend on you. This is the time when you as the parents are the child's heroes. At this point, you are their hero regardless of what you do, right or wrong they love you unconditionally and this unconditional love is at its peak.

I would love to call this "the hero window", a period when they are inclined to learn from you. But if you fail to get registered at this point when they can't judge you, if you don't create that genuine connection, Once that opening is closed then you are most likely going to be rejected.

They may assume daddy is too busy to pay attention or listen ant could be because you've always been too busy to notice the way they craved for your attention and validation. Maybe the only time they were in your focus was when they did something wrong and you had to scold or punish them.

Some fathers may be caring for their bills; hospital bills, school fees and feeding. But what they saw was Mummy taking them to the hospital when they were sick, cooking and feeding them, taking them to school and paying fees. Such kids connect more with their Mum because she was available for them.
Providing financially is crucial, but kids often connect with what's visible – like Mum's daily presence.

Parents, make effective use of the hero window you have for each kid, do not let it waste. How you handle these formative years will have dirrect impact on your children during their teenage years and throughout their lives. Invest in genuine connections, and you'll reap long-term benefits.
