I am a Graduate — A Certified Radiographer |
|---|
There's nothing more exciting as graduating from a field of study or discipline you spent years studying. Nigerians would say If e Easy, Run Am. Most people gave up along the line but I wore the gown last week and celebrated with my family. My joy can't be expressed enough in words. Let me tell you about the day I was induction into the Radiography council of Nigeria.
A Night to my Induction |
|---|
After several postponed dates on our induction, the department decided to fix it on the 26th of November which was last week. All my body was just joyful and grateful for the giver of life and for his help to my attaining such great achievement. I'm my parents First Graduate. That night, I went to see my brother and mum in a bar where my cousin took them to as they came to Calabar, Nigeria to celebrate with me.
I spent quality time with them that night before leaving with my friend to the apartment we were based. That night was a night of emotions and truth. I listened to emotional songs about Congratulations, achievements, success and growth. It was also a prayerful night. Some of the songs I listened to were;
| Congratulations by Buchi | Champion by Fire boy Dml |
|---|---|
| Winning by Mr P | Stand Up for the Champions |
These songs soothe me and made my night an emotional one. I slept like a baby and work up like one that morning. I had my makeup and hair done and then moved to the event with my friends. We couldn't believe we were about being inducted as Radiographers. God did. Before going to the event, my friends and I visited a digital studio to take the pictures you're seeing. These pictures are taken professionally to be used as enlargements.
My outfit
I wore a bone straight human hair and a Zara beautifully sewn top and Palazzo pant. It was all red while my sash was black with my name and department inscribed on it. Then my graduation gown and cap to signify that I'm no ordinary graduate. I was about to be inducted and certified as a Radiographer. My shoe was black with a bow tie design in front of it.
The Event Proper |
|---|
The event commenced by 9Am on the dot and we were already there before that time so as to do procession inside the induction hall. I wore my gown elegantly and walked down the aisle with my friends as we took our seats and listened to the lecture given. Our honourable head of department, the Vice chancellor representative, lecturers in Radiography department and other important personnel across Nigeria.
A lecture was given on how Artificial intelligence is claiming people's jobs. As Radiographers, AI may be a useful technology to use but it hasn't replaced our work because we'll need to work hand-in-hand with Ai to produce a desired result. You might be wondering what is done in the radiography department. **Heard of x-rays? That's us. We feel with all types of scan and radioactive elements that may be dangerous and useful to humans, exposure and the likes. Our vision is to see is to curb the risk of exposure when placed on ultraviolet rays equipment to scan your internal organs and check for defects and other things inside the body.
Radiography is broad of which we are exposed to all these areas of specialisation. It's left for us to apply. We were given encouragements, motivated and triggered to soar higher in the labour market and look for ways to improve some of the defects that comes with inaccuracy in scan results and the likes. We were then told to take an oat into the profession. This oat reminds us anywhere and anytime that we're embodied to help people and to do so with certain qualities necessary for those in this profession.
After taking the oat in the presence of our parents, we applauded all those that made our journey successful including our parents. Awards were given to the best graduating male and female Radiographers and it's quite intriguing to know that University of Calabar has inducted over 500 Radiographers in the last 5 years and we happen to be the highest, numbering 233 inductees..
Last Procession and Certification |
|---|
I got my Certificate as we bowed out of the induction hall. I was so happy to see my mum who was smiling throughout. People discouraged her from taking me to this university. They said that I would be like other students who go there and end up wasted. On the 26th of November, 2025, my mum became the proudest of mothers because all her prayers for me has been answered and I've made her proud in the best of ways. I've made her enemies ashamed.
I hugged her affectionately, knowing what she passed through to take me from the start of this journey to the end. I hugged my dad and brother who were my financial backbone while I was in school. They supported me in the best way possible and with their support, I'm here as a graduate.

To my friends Kasie, Edward, Henry, Esther and others including my reading partners, you guys were my backbone in school. They say, show me your friend and I'll tell you who you are. They were real and good friends who shaped me into choosing the path of success.

To my spiritual parents in Calabar, they are always there to encourage me physically since my parents are in Uyo. They were there for me in my trying times, times when I was stressed and emotionally downcast. To my cousins, they turned up to celebrate my success.

My Advice to those Pursuing Higher Education |
|---|
Pursuing a programme in tertiary institution is never an easy journey. You'll always face situations that would make you give up or quit. But remember you have people you'll put to shame if you give up. Remember that your parents would become a laughing stock and remember that they invested all the money they should have used to care for themselves to give you a bright future. With all these in mind, you'll try as much as possible to do that one thing that'll make them proud. The friends you make can either shape you positively or negatively. So be cautious in your choice of friends as we all different dreams.
In all, Make your Mama Proud. Congratulations to Rad. Mkpouto Moses.
