29th was a great day in my village. The Ndi Ebe Day Celebration was fixed to be on that day and as such, the day began with a lot of excitement in air. My Brother who is the President General of my Village union and the initiator of the celebration left the house as early as 6 am to the celebration venue to supervise those he had delegated to organise the event. According to him, they need to ensure that the location is set for the event which was slated to start by 10am. But you know that Africans don't keep to time and that is why we often mentionAfrican Time.

We on other hand, that is, myself, my sister and her kids that came back did cleanup in the house. I had to thoroughly clean the room and the bathroom that I will be using for the period while others cleaned the other rooms and the bathrooms. Others were assigned to clean the kitchen, lobby, seating room and the surrounding of the house.

Then, we prepared breakfast, are and got dressed for the big day. But first, we had some Uncles, step siblings and friends to visit. The truth is that where we are living is different from our family house and it is just at the entrance of the village. And so, moving out, it is like entering the village. Our first point of visit was my uncle who is to be the chairman of the Ndi Ebe Day Celebration. We met him at home and we exchanged pleasantries. I plugged my power bank there, took some nice pictures before leaving

We moved next to my father's house, our family house. But on our way, we were exchanging pleasantries with friends and relatives who live along the road and who we met as we were moving. They were happy to see us. Upon arrival in my father's house, we met my stepmothers who were still alive, met our aunties, uncles and step siblings. We hugged each other, chatted for some time and moved to the kitchen side. I saw my mother's kitchen and room being occupied by my auntie and step siblings.

Then, we were first served garden egg, kola nut and the pepper sauce in my late father pepper sauce plate as you can see below

My father only brings this out when he has visitor. Only old men has this type now. So this was an inheritance. I recalled a lot of things, a lot of experiences of long ago when my parents were still alive. We remembered, told brief stories about my father's relationship with his 6 wives, how they fought, played and ate together. Those memories made us laugh and laugh 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂.

Before long, the native soup was ready. Yes. I call it native soup because it was prepared using ingredients that were used long ago by my mother and I haven't prepared any soup using that leaf. The major ingredients were

Akuwa leaf
Freshly plucked mushroom and so on.

My step sister who returned from Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria prepared it. She said she had missed that leaf. We enjoyed eating this food together as sisters while others ate theirs together too. Yes, we love eating food in the same plate. That's our custom. The video will explain more.

As soon as we were done eating, one of my step brothers brought a dead monkey that had been killed already, asking us to buy it let's roast and eat. It was fun and scary at the same time. We took closer look at it again and made fun with it. Yes, we examined it's face and foot as well as it's fingers as it looked like human being. Stories about it filled the air and in the end, it became unpleasant for me and my other siblings to eat, others praised and admired it, saying that the meat is always very tasty. All I did was to take pictures of it and video it. I couldn't stand it. The video is there to show how it looked . Pictures are here below

It was then roasted and we watched, then I left to change my top because the heat was much since it is black top. The celebration was about to begin. As soon as I changed, I headed back to the field where is the venue for the occasion and it is just in front of my father's house. I took my seat and waited for other guests. The truth is that the occasion began very late, at about few minutes past 5 pm. You can imagine that! Dignitaries came from far and near and the members of the high table were introduced to take their seats.

Because it was late already, the occasion was rushed. There were welcome speech, opening speeches, some major developments within the year, awards and recognitions of the invitees and other high ranked personalities in my village. Then there was also masquerade of different types who were given opportunities to showcase their talents. But everything was brief. Imagine if there were enough time! There was calendar for 2026 that was launched and sold, then there were financial pledges in support of the occasion and for development. Then food and dances followed. It became dark and we left.

The day ended well as we went home with our drinks to prepare dinner. My travel experience is very entertaining! I am not done yet. More experiences are yet to be written. Don't fail to visit my blog again for another experience. See you then

The Ndi Ebe Day celebration reflects unity, leadership, and respect for heritage, and it was beautiful to see how family memories and togetherness played such an important role throughout the day. Your storytelling made the experience feel alive and meaningful, and it also gave a deep insight into rural life and customs.
