Week 1, Invigilation for Second Semester Exam Done, waiting for week 2

During exams, we, the lecturers are usually very busy. Every department schedules all their lecturers for invigilation. My own department is not an exception. I was included in the invigilation and we began the exams on Tuesday, 11th August.

On that day, my own course that I taught was taken. And so, I was also scheduled to invigilate it. I taught ND 2 accounting students and the course title is Financial accounting. I already gave them assignments and tests. The class size if 86 but on the average, only 50 attended my classes. We were 2 lecturers that taught them the same course and my co-lecturer also complained the same thing but what can we do? We can't force them to classes.

In that test and exam days, they all showed up. As for the test, they tried. I am yet to mark the exam scripts. But, I will mark and score only those topics I taught them while my colleague marks and scores the other ones.

My duty on Invigilation days is to report in my department, pick the packaged question papers, the answer booklets and attendance sheets and proceed to the assigned hall. Then, I will instruct the students to put away anything they have that will implicate them including their bags, phones, smart watches, eyeglasses and the rest. Then I will arrange them in order before distributing the answer booklets.

Afterwards, I will distribute the question papers and I struct them to commence. Then the duration will be announced. Then I will arrange the attendance sheet and give them to fill out. It is usually 2 pages and they are to fill out the pages with their details.

Then, I am to be very vigilant in case anyone cheats or communicates unnecessarily or cause nuisance in the hall. At the end of the period, I will collect the scripts, confirm and compare the name on the attendance list with the scripts to ensure they tally, then I will return to my department to report that I am done and then submit what I had gone out with and report any incident if any.

On Wednesday, I was scheduled for 2 exams, morning and midday. Morning started by 8am to 10.30 am, then mid-day paper starts by 11am to 1.30 pm. I was able to do that successfully without any problem.

On Friday, I was supposed to also have 2 papers to invigilate but I got an update that the one I was supposed to invigilate by 2pm to 4.30 pm was shifted to 8 am, the same time I have the other paper which is also the course I taught. The department decided that I concentrate on that one that is my paper while another lecturer covers for me.

That was what happened. It went very well except that this Marketing department that I taught Cost accounting 2 were mostly absent in classes. But we had to manage them. Can you imagine that their exams were scheduled to start by 8 am but by that time, I met online 2 students out of a class of 28. They started calling their course mates. We waited for about 45 minutes before we began the exams. Well, they were able to write it and it was concluded without any problem.

The week 1 is over but the exam invigilation is not yet over. I still have 2 more weeks to invigilate. Week 2 will begin on Tuesday and we are usually very busy. We are instructed to be vigilant and not be seen doing any other thing apart from invigilating those students to ensure credible invigilation.
