Hello beautiful Steemians. I warmly extend my heartfelt greetings to you all in this community. I would like to show you how to prepare a delicious rice with stew meal from scratch.
Rice and stew is a favorite Nigerian delicacy, which is cherished and preferred by 90% of Nigerians, and it is cooked often, especially during the Christmas and New Year season, because it is simple to cook, affordable to purchase, and delicious to consume.
Here are the ingredients I used for the meal.
- Rice
- Groundnut oil
- Stew seasoning
- Meat seasoning
- Pepper
- Cubed seasoning
- Onions
- Canned tomatoes
- Fresh tomatoes
- And any meat of your choice.
Step-by-step method on how to cook the meal. |

- Prepare your rice: Wash and boil your rice in a pot of water and add some salt to the rice (salt is optional). Depending on the amount of your rice, boil until it gets soft for consumption, or if you wish to filter the first water in the rice to remove the starch in it before adding another water to the rice to boil till consumption, you are free to do so; most people like that method.

- Steam your meat: wash your meat perfectly; in a pot, add some of the ingredients like cube seasoning, onions, pepper, and meat seasoning to it, and leave it to steam for 5-10 minutes.

Meat preparation
- Prepare your stew: This is my favorite part. First of all, the pot you will use must be dry before you add groundnut oil to it. When the groundnut oil is hot on fire, add a few onions into the pot before adding your meat to fry. When the meat is fried, add fresh tomatoes and cover the pot for a few minutes to steam, then add canned tomatoes to it and stir.

Stew preparation
After that, you add a little water; you might as well add the water from your meat—it gives the stew the flavor of the meat you used to prepare the meal. After that you add your ingredients; the stew seasoning, onions, and pepper. Add the amount of water of your choice and stir. Then wait for a few minutes to cook and then serve your meal.

The measurements of these ingredients depend on the amount of food you cook. You can make your stew thick or watery depending on your preference, but I prefer a thick stew; that's why mine looks thick.
