The benefits of oxygen cylinders to health.
Hello Steemians! |
|---|
At first glance, these tall, heavy cylinders might just look like ordinary containers to a layman, but they are far from ordinary in medical settings. A medical oxygen cylinder is a very important equipment in healthcare settings. These cylinders are filled with compressed oxygen gas, which is essential for supporting life, especially in patients who are struggling and unable to breathe.
Oxygen cylinders are usually made of strong metal and painted in specific colors to indicate they contain oxygen. In some health care settings “MEDICAL OXYGEN” is usually written boldly on them so there will be no confusion.
What does this Instrument do to save lives? |
|---|
The main function of an oxygen cylinder is to supply oxygen to patients who cannot get enough oxygen on their own. Oxygen is life. Without it, the body’s organs, especially the brain, can start to fail within minutes, and this can cause severe damage to the brain and may result in cerebral palsy (paralysis of the brain) and other brain complications, and this can affect the function of the entire body of a person.
Uses of oxygen in healthcare |
|---|
Oxygen cylinders are used in many situations; some include:
An oxygen cylinder can be used. During labor and delivery, especially if a mother or baby shows signs of distress
It can be used. In emergency cases like asthma attacks, accidents, or severe infections
It can also be administered to patients with breathing problems like pneumonia or respiratory diseases.
It is used during surgeries and in recovery rooms.
It can also be used even in ambulances for emergency transport to the hospital.
Benefits of Oxygen Cylinders |
|---|
It has saved numerous lives.
It is portable and can be moved easily from one place to another.
They are depending in case of power failure or system breakdown.
Patients recover quick and faster when their oxygen levels are maintained properly.
As a student midwife, I’ve come to understand how crucial and necessary oxygen support can be, especially for newborns who need help taking their first strong breaths because some of the newborns may have breathing difficulties at birth, so having oxygen by the side can help prevent birth abnormalities for the baby. Seeing cylinders reminds me that healthcare isn’t just about drugs or injections. It's about giving life a second chance, and every time I walk past one, I think about the role it plays in saving lives.
