Daily Routine of a Radiologist

In my previous post, I talked about the work of a radiologist using myself as an example as a doctor who specialises in using medical imaging to diagnose and sometimes treat diseases. Today I am here to share how the daily routine of a radiologist is usually in almost every hospital.

Daily Routine of a Radiologist

Early Morning Preparation (7:00–8:00 AM)

As a radiologist, I usually start my day early in the hospital or diagnostic centre depending on cases on the ground. During this time I often do the following:

• I review the schedule of imaging procedures for the day.

• I check for urgent cases that came in overnight.

• I prepare my workstations and imaging software.

Also, I do attend a morning briefing, which sometimes is a clinical meeting with other doctors to discuss the importance of patient cases

Reviewing Medical Image (8 am - 12 Pm)

I spent half of my day at work examining medical images carefully.

• I study X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, and ultrasound images.

• I look for abnormalities like fractures, infection, Timor ot internal bleedings.

• I then compare the current images that I have with the previous scans to see if a condition has worsened or improved.

Concentration and strong attention are required to do all of these.

Writing Diagnostic Reports:

• I do ensure I write down what I observe in the scan.

• The possible medical conditions.

• Recommendations for treatments or further tests.

After writing this report, it will then be sent to the specialist or the patient's doctor who will decide the next step in treating the patient.

These are just a few tips of what I usually do at work which I will keep on sharing with you as time goes on. It is a nice profession indeed.
