Radiologist Duties and Responsibilities 🩺
I am a radiologist which I have been into practise for four years now working in different hospitals and clinics.
A lot of people get confused between the duty and responsibility of a radiographer and a radiologist which for this post I will talk about myself as a radiologist and talk about the difference with a radiographer in our next post.
A radiologist is also classified as a medical doctor who specialises in diagnosing and sometimes treating diseases using medical imaging techniques.
So this means anyone who says to you that he or she is a radiologist, it means the person is a medical doctor who specialises in diagnosing and sometimes treating diseases using medical imaging techniques. It all depends on the kind of hospital.
As a radiologist working in one of the biggest hospitals in Port Harcourt Rivers State Nigeria, I carefully examine images such as X-raysz CT scans, MRIs, and ultrasounds to detect abnormalities in the body of a patient. My role in any hospital or clinic is helping doctors to make accurate medical decisions.
Interpreting Medical Images
My primary responsibility as a radiologist is to analyse and interpret medical images. These medical images may include the following:
- X-rays
- Computed Tomography Scans (CT)
- Ultrasound images
- Mammograms
Studying any of the above helps me to identify problems such as fractures, infections, tumours, internal bleeding, or organ damage.
Diagnosing Diseases
As a radiologist, I use my expertise to help diagnose many medical conditions, such as:
- Bone fractures
- Cancer and tumors
- Lung diseases
- Brain disorders
- Heart and blood vessel problems.
