Hello friends, how are you all doing today? I hope all is well and you all are having a nice and wonderful day. Today is all about art, and I will be sharing with you all a drawing technique that most people have not seen before.

Have you all ever heard of the term "pointillism", if the answer is "No" then pointillism is the process of applying light and shade in a composition through the use of repeated dot

So today I will be using it to produce or make a portrait drawing of myself, and this is actually my first time trying out this technique, but to my greatest surprise, it went well and was outstanding.

And some of the materials I'd used in making the drawing are;

  • Plain white paper
  • Black ball pen

STEP 1

In the first step, I started by outlining my face on the paper as seen above, and I tried my best to be careful because when you're drawing with a pen, you need to be extra careful since mistakes can't be erased.

After I finished sketching the picture as seen above, I started by applying light and shade using repeated dots called pointillism, and it went very well and was pretty impressive for a start.

STEP 2

In the second step, I continued using the technique repeatedly but very carefully to avoid making a mistake. As I mentioned earlier, making mistakes while drawing with a pen is very dangerous for your art piece because it can't be erased; rather, it can only be controlled artistically.

So, in the second step, I tried applying more dots to places that appeared to be a bit darker than the rest and also to places that seemed to have light reflections. I then applied fewer dots to create a nice composition, and as seen in the above picture, it came out very well.

STEP 3

In the third step, as compared with the second step, I went ahead to add more features that were missing in the composition. For example, you can see that I have added the clothes, and I tried to show the folded area of the cloth to avoid making it look flat like an artisan's work. Rather, it made it look creative and nice.

But in this step, what was left for me to do was to add the eyebrows, which I did, and it looked very nice. Of course, you all are going to see the final picture in the last step.

Now, to round up the article, I was done with my little art piece, and the total duration that I'd used in creating this amazing and stunning masterpiece was just six hours, and I really thank God that it came out well for me.

Now, the whole point of this article is that you all have now seen what the term "pointillism" is all about and how to use it in your drawings. It's super simple and very easy to use. All you need to do is just repeat the dots to make it appear deeper in density where you have shade and make the dots lighter where light appears in the picture, and boom, it will look like a professional work of art.

This will be all for today and I hope you all enjoyed reading through my article and remember that in every article the first three letters is "Art" because art is life, thank you all for having me
