Weekly Contest 30|| The Diary Game ||"palm Sunday, wigs & Streams of Joy"
Hello guys, I'm going to be telling you all about my day.
Morning
A little backstory, I haven't gone to church since the first Sunday of the year. I'm a terrible person I know, but yesterday I made up my mind to go to church today and I made sure it happened, set my alarm and everything all in preparation for today. I woke up this morning by 7am, took the clothes that I washed yesterday that didn't dry outside. Then I got into the bathroom and brushed and afterwards had my bath. Wore my dress and I couldn't zip myself up from the back, so I went to my neighbor's apartment to help me and she did. I also needed help with my hair tie since I couldn't do that on my head, but she didn't know how to either. I went to the next available neighbor and she helped me tie it but I low-key didn't like it so I took it off when I got back into my house. After I took off the hair tie, I called the girl I was supposed to go to church with. She said I could start coming now, but the church bus hadn’t arrived yet. There’s usually a bus that comes to the University of Uyo to pick up students for church. The church’s name is Streams of Joy. After the call, I left my house, carefully avoiding the neighbor who helped me with the hair tie earlier—I didn’t want her to see me without it. That would've been awkward. I started walking toward school. On the way, I passed a big crowd of Catholic worshippers celebrating Palm Sunday. They were all on one side of the road, and I was alone on the other. It made me feel so shy, like I was sticking out, so I increased my steps to the hostel. When I got there, my friend welcomed me and asked me to sit. She went to have her bath while we waited for the bus, and I took her phone to make videosbecause I looked really pretty! Another girl, who was also from my secondary school, was going with us too.
After getting dressed, my friend brought out a wig, and I was completely fascinated by it. I tried it on—and wow, I looked gorgeous! Like I was the star of a music video. It may seem as though I can't upload a video but I'll take a screenshot so that you guys can understand my point of view of being a star.
Eventually, I took it off, and we went to grab a bite before church. I didn’t buy anything to eat because I knew my dad would probably bring food later, and I didn’t want to waste money. While we were waiting, two more people joined us. One of them thought she saw the church bus, but it was a false alarm. Eventually, we got a text saying the bus was outside the school. We rushed out, but it wasn’t there yet we waited another five minutes before it finally arrived.
There were more than Eighteen of us, so some people had to sit on others’ laps. That's just how Nigeria is for you. The ride was a bit long, but we finally got to the church. I liked how the place looked. We were seated upstairs and got it during praise and worship, I had a good time, it was lively and fun. After that, we prayed, and the pastor’s wife came up. Since it was my first time, I asked my friend beside me who she was. She gave a “weekly declaration,” which was totally new to me—declaring things for Monday, Tuesday, and so on. It was interesting. Then the pastor came up and prayed for a very long time. I honestly thought they weren’t going to preach anymore because so much time had passed. When he finally did preach, I didn’t really understand much. I didn’t enjoy the service the way I enjoy my home church, so I don’t think I’ll go back. But they said the Singles Service next week is usually exciting, so maybe I’ll give it a try.
Afternoon
We closed around 1 PM (we got there by 9!). After the service, I took a picture, then got on the bus back to the hostel. When I got back, I picked up my power bank, and my dad called to say he was nearby. He asked me to meet him at Chicken Republic. I waited inside, but he called again, saying, “I told you to come out, and you’re not here!” Turns out he was outside the whole time. When he saw me, he smiled and said I looked so pretty. I replied, “Thank you, Daddy.” He brought some things for me, and when I told him I hadn’t eaten, he went inside Chicken Republic and got me rice and chicken—with water. I took a keke back home and paid ₦1000 for the ride. The meal at Chicken Republic had cost ₦3,200, so I was already counting my expenses! I think the conversion to steem is 730800steem, now I don't know how correct that is.
Once I got home, I swept everywhere because the house was a mess before I left. I arranged the things my dad brought, then called my mom to thank her for packaging everything so nicely for me.After that, I finally dug into my food I was so hungry. I wanted to sleep afterward, but I felt like chatting with someone, so I called a friend and we talked before I dozed off.
Evening
Later, another friend woke me up with a call, saying she brought food for me and I should come to the hostel. Honestly, I had already made a mental plan during church not to cook since I figured my dad and my friend would both feed me (which they did!). So I got up, dressed, and headed to the hostel. I also carried my scrubs along because I’m an IT student, and on Mondays we wear scrubs to the hospital. There’s no electricity in my area, so I needed to iron them at the hostel. At the hostel, I ate the rice and stew with meat my friend brought, it was delicious! Then I started ironing my clothes. We chatted and laughed about how someone responded to a message I sent, and then I headed back home. My neighbor saw me on the way and gave me a lift. On the ride, he told me he started driving at 16 and got his license at 18 which I felt was impressive! I got home, had my bath, checked out what steemit had in store for me and then I saw the “Tell Me About Your Day” challenge... and started writing.
I'd like to thank @m-fdo for hosting me and everyone else participating in this challenge.
