How many "player/managers" does Steem actually have? [burnsteem100]
Last weekend, I posted, Steem Account Distribution - owned and effective SP [burnsteem100]. Unfortunately, after posting, I noticed that I had refreshed the wrong data file, and the source information was 3 months old.
So, I refreshed the data file today, and added some filtering for another unique look at Steem's ownership. When we talk about "whales", "dolphins", etc... what does that mean? By ownership? By delegated amount? By both?
So, I was curious to see how many accounts fit into those categories by the most restrictive definition? Here's a short summary. To fit in a category, the account must own enough VESTS, and it must also retain that many VESTS after factoring in delegations.
| Category | Count | SP controlled | Pct of SP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blue whale | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| Whale+ | 16 | 70M | 36% |
| Orca+ | 135 | 109M | 57% |
| Dolphin+ | 829 | 136M | 71% |
| Minnows+ | 5,128 | 154M | 80% |
| Redfish+ | 29,361 | 169M | 88% |
| Plankton+ | 185,290 | 182M | 95% |
| All accounts | 1,942,796 | 192M | 100% |
And here are the visuals
Whales and above
Orcas and above
Dolphins and above (all cetaceans)

Redfish+
All accounts
And as long as I'm here, here are updates to the distribution visuals
By ownership
By net value after delegations
Ownership and control by delegation bots (estimated)
Not sure what all this tells us, but it's interesting to look at.
