This is the final report from True Colours, the CAT Team.
We’ve really enjoyed reading your contributions and, of course, providing feedback. As always, many of you have responded, and this has led to some wonderful discussions. Although August is the month of the (summer) holidays, we’ve still come across plenty of artistic, creative and talented people. We’ve welcomed newcomers, and old friends have also returned to this platform and are super active with reading, commenting and connecting.
Below, we present our final three nominations for August 2026. Nomination 3 might be different from what you expected, but we believe these three selections are worth your time.
May September be not only a month of connections, but also of development and progress. Nothing good can be achieved without dedication and actually putting improvements into practice.
Find companionship and comfort in difficult times. Get in touch if you need someone, and stay close.

Is it lonely to be almost understood, and what about being completely misunderstood? Is there a chance to bridge the gap, to be understood, or will someone else fill in the blanks when you think it wiser to remain silent?
"Every week, life seems to be on repeat. Groundhog day sometimes, maybe not to the exact but close or is it Edge of Tomorrow? When a day comes, everything seems to be on an autopilot mode - alarm rings, wake up, shower, go through the day and then night comes...
While part of me goes on autopilot mode, the brain doesn't and sometimes, I would try to concentrate, to complete what I needed complete for the day but to no avail because the brain refuses to connect...
Then comes the weekend, and auto pilot mode kicks in just the same where laundry, mopping, toilet cleaning becomes part of the mode. Every weekend, it seemed like just yesterday I washed the toilet. As much as I feel like dropping the chore for the weekend, again, the brain refuses to co-operate. The little voices that whisper closely annoyingly, that wouldn't leave until each chore is done..."

In this text, the protagonist tells us that she is suffering from work-related stress and therefore decided to go to the museum to escape the overwhelming reality. However, her plans didn't go well, as the protagonist saw a work depicting a girl separated from her parents and remembered how unhappy she was during her own childhood.
"The scene of the girl isolated from her parents made me think of my own parents who, although they brought me into the world and gave me everything, didn't seem to love me very much. I even think they didn't even love each other because there are parents who continue to have relationships and have children, or even if they only have one or two, they give the impression of caring for each other in some way..."

I don’t know what the right word is to describe this post. Is what has happened to this community bitter, scandalous or heartbreaking? All sorts of thoughts and questions are running through my head. Are the average Steemians too lazy to read, too stupid or simply not interested? To what extent has this situation been created by attracting huge numbers of people, making false promises and giving high votes to something that nobody would pay for to read?
"For weeks now, whenever I look at our posts, I’ve either found them annoying or I am simply not interested in them. After all, right at the top of our page it says – ‘The Community for Fictional Writing and Poetry’. Regardless of this, non-fiction texts are posted here, and when a small remark is made about it, either there’s no response at all, or people pause for a few days and then cheerfully carry on with the same rubbish...
Let me put it another way: our values are no longer taken seriously. We have degenerated into a place like so many others, where you publish just about anything and might (though probably not) pick up a few votes. What we stand for – it doesn’t matter. What we want – uninteresting..."

Mirá, la frase de Wayne Gerard Trotman sobre el arte y el riesgo de ofender me recordó al “año del caballo” que señalás, como símbolo de libertad creativa. Sentí que la nominación de @marblely captura ese “Groundhog Day” que describís, donde el autopiloto parece dominar la rutina diaria. Es así nomás, la vida misma a veces se vuelve ese ciclo que intentamos romper con la creatividad.
Hay citas maravillosas que nos invitan a reflexionar. Creo que eres el primero en hacer un comentario al respecto, aunque no creo que haya mucha gente que lea estos informes con atención.
Yo sí que intento crear un conjunto coherente entre los nominados y el texto introductorio. Al igual que tú, lo considero algo natural. Y dado que el arte, el talento y la creatividad son nuestro tema (además de hacer buenos comentarios y establecer y mantener contactos), para mí es lógico que se siga garantizando la libertad artística. El arte no tiene nada que ver con decir lo que otros quieren oír, sino con expresar y evocar sentimientos y ofrecerles un espacio.
Es inevitable ofender a alguien en algún momento, sobre todo hoy en día. Por eso, incluso los acontecimientos menos agradables, como los de la tercera nominación, merecen ser puestos en el punto de mira. Quizá quienes no son creativos no lo entiendan, pero para ellos hay suficientes otras opciones y tienen derecho a mirar hacia otro lado.
There are some wonderful quotes that give us food for thought. I think you’re the very first person to comment on this, though I don’t suppose there are many who read these reports carefully.
I do try to create a coherent whole from the nominees and the introductory text. Like you, I think that goes without saying. And given that art, talent and creativity are our theme (alongside providing good commentary and building and maintaining contacts), it makes sense to me that artistic freedom should remain guaranteed. Art has nothing to do with pandering to others, but with expressing and evoking feelings and providing space for them.
It’s impossible to avoid offending someone somewhere, certainly not these days. So even less pleasant developments, such as those surrounding the third nomination, deserve to be brought into the spotlight. Perhaps those who aren’t creative don’t understand this, but for them there are plenty of other options, and they have the right to look the other way.
