Far Away
The nights feel wider than they used to.
Streetlights flicker as if searching for what I lost.
I speak your name softly, letting it travel where I cannot.
Silence answers with a weight I am learning to carry.
Maps show miles, but not the ache beneath them.
Aeroplanes cross the sky like moving reminders.
I hold on to fragments of ordinary days we once shared.
Memory becomes a place I visit instead of a time I lived.
Somewhere, you are breathing the same sky in a different light.
The sun reaches you before it reaches me.
Between us stands the patient stretch of the world.
And still, I stand here, facing you from far away.
