A free, healthy, and responsible press is a crucial aspect in accelerating the advancement of Indonesia's human resources and ensuring equitable and sustainable development throughout the region.

"When the press advances—professionally, healthily, and with integrity—the public will become more intelligent, inspired, and actively participate in national development. This is where Indonesia's human resources will thrive," stated Wali Nanggroe Aceh Governor, His Excellency Tgk. Malik Mahmud Al-Haythar, at the commemoration of the 79th Anniversary of the Press Company Union (SPS) in Meuligoe, Wali Nanggroe, Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

Wali Nanggroe praised SPS's long journey over nearly eight decades, which has been a key pillar of the national press ecosystem and demonstrated a strong commitment to independence, professionalism, and journalistic integrity.

With this year's theme, "Advanced Press, Advancing Indonesian Resources," Wali Nanggroe emphasized that a nation's progress is not solely determined by natural resources or technological advancements, but also by the quality of information and public intelligence.

According to Wali Nanggroe, Aceh has enormous potential—from natural resources and energy to cultural values and superior human resources. However, this potential requires an active role for the media to inform, inspire, and mobilize the community towards prosperity and peace.

Wali Nanggroe urged SPS, particularly SPS Aceh, to strengthen collaboration with local governments, the education sector, and the creative economy sector to create a healthy press climate, encourage investment, strengthen public literacy, and elevate Aceh's image as a peaceful, modern, and open region.

Highlighting the challenges of the digital era, Wali Nanggroe reminded that although technology has changed the way people read news and form opinions, the fundamental values of journalism—honesty, balance, and responsibility—must remain intact.

"The press must be a moral pillar of the nation, not merely a player in the information industry," emphasized Tgk Malik Mahmud.

He also added that amidst the rapid flow of information and disinformation, the role of SPS is increasingly important as a guardian of professional and ethical standards in the national media world.

Concluding his remarks, Wali Nanggroe called the 79th anniversary of SPS a momentum for a new revival for the Indonesian press—not only in terms of technology and business, but also in terms of integrity and moral contribution to the nation's progress.

"From Aceh," he said, "may the spirit of 'Advancing Press, Advancing Indonesian Resources' resonate throughout the archipelago."
