After Flooding, Kuta Blang Bridge in Bireuen Restores Operational Status.
The Krueng Tingkeum Bridge in Kutablang Bireuen, Kuta Blang District, Bireuen Regency, Aceh Province, along the Banda Aceh-Medan national road, which was cut off by flooding on Wednesday (November 26, 2025), was operational again at around 10:30 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB). At Saturday (December 27, 2025), the bridge reopened to various types of vehicles with a maximum capacity of 30 tons.
The anticipated opening of the bridge by the Acehnese community began with a peusijuk (fresh flour offering) by Tgk Jafar, head of Dayah Nurul Fata, Krueng Tingkeum. The event was attended by various groups at the bridge, who then provided assistance to a number of orphans.
The bridge inauguration was conducted by Rakhman Taufik, ST, M.Sc, Director of Bridge Construction at the Directorate General of Highways; the Regent of Bireuen, H. Mukhlis, ST; Iskandar Muda Deputy Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Czi Surya Adi; the Aceh National Road Implementation Agency (BPJN) Regional Work Unit 1 team; the Adhi Karya team; the Bireuen Police Chief, AKBP Tuschad Cipta Herdani; the Bireuen Military District Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Arh, Luthfi Novriadi, SE SSos MHan MSc; the Head of the Bireuen Public Works and Public Housing Agency; and thousands of residents who had been waiting since morning for the bridge to open.
Since morning, various types of vehicles had been queuing on both the east and west sides of the bridge, and hundreds of motorcycles were also on their way to the bridge. Thousands of Bireuen residents also crowded the bridge area to witness the inauguration and opening ceremony of the bridge connecting the provinces.
Following the peusijuk (religious service) followed by a communal prayer, officials then inspected the bridge's condition up close, moved heavy equipment, and removed the barriers.
At around 10:30 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), the bridge officially opened, beginning with two-wheeled vehicles from west to east. Hundreds of vehicles crossed the bridge, followed by four-wheeled vehicles and large trucks.
Dozens of residents captured the passing vehicles on their cell phone cameras and reported the news to their colleagues. The bridge, which had been closed for the past month due to flash floods and landslides, was finally officially restored to service as the main connecting route between Medan and Banda Aceh.
Rakhman Taufik, Director of Bridge Construction at the Directorate General of Highways, ST MSc, stated in a press conference that bridge reconnection work had been underway since December 9th. Field work was a collaboration between the Ministry of Public Works, the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) Iskandar Muda Military Command (Kodam), and construction management with PT Adhi Karya.
"Thank God, on Saturday, December 27, 2025, the bridge was completed and opened to various types of vehicles," he said.
He also coordinated with various parties and the Bireuen Police to install signs and warnings, urging everyone to comply.
He added that the bridge is an emergency bridge, with a load limit of 30 tons, and a 4-meter freeway.
The public is expected to avoid convoys and to prohibit stopping on the bridge. Deputy Commander of the Iskandar Muda Military Command, Lieutenant Colonel Czi Surya Adi, stated during the meeting that they were essentially following orders from their superiors. "Thank God, the Kutablang Bridge has been completed and can be used," he said. "However, there are still some further projects, including the design and reinforcement of the bridge."
"Hopefully, our work will benefit the people of Aceh," he said.
The Regent of Bireuen, H. Mukhlis ST, expressed his gratitude to the central government, the Ministry of Public Works, the Regional Military Command's (Kodam) Military Command (Zipur), and all parties involved in the bridge's construction.
Construction progressed very quickly, and the route from Bireuen to Medan is running smoothly. Although not as smoothly as before, it is still running smoothly. He expressed his hope that a permanent bridge would soon be built.
"This bridge is an important route for the eastern route, and thank God, it has been opened and is running smoothly," he said.
