A fire disaster occurred in Bireuen Regency, Aceh Province. Two houses caught fire in Cot Bada Baroh Village, Peusangan District, Bireuen, on Friday, January 23, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time.
The two houses burned down, belonging to Makhayiwah (70 years old) and Munzir (40 years old). The disaster severely affected 10 people from four families.
Their homes were completely destroyed by the fire, including all their contents. The cause of the fire is still unknown, and there were no casualties in the disaster, which destroyed two permanent homes.
According to reports, the fire started in a bedroom in Makhayiwah's house. Saudah Ilyas, the homeowner's daughter, explained that the fire spread rapidly.
Sauda explained that when she entered through the side door because the front door was locked, she saw smoke billowing from inside the house. As she was about to open the front door to greet guests, she discovered a fire already burning in her mother's room.
"I saw smoke, so I went inside to open the front door. It turned out the fire had already spread to my mother's room," Saudah said, her face filled with sadness.
She immediately ran outside to save herself and called for help from local residents. At that time, her son, Fahmi, who was sleeping in the back room, also managed to escape.
However, the fire quickly spread throughout the house, razing the permanent structure to the ground.
Three Bireuen Regency fire trucks were deployed to the scene. Firefighters, assisted by the community and other elements, extinguished the fire.
The hot weather facilitated and accelerated the house's fire, and efforts to extinguish the fire were successful. However, the house and all its contents were completely destroyed, leaving only the concrete slab.
Meanwhile, Zulyadi, the Village Head (Keuchik) of Cot Bada Baroh, accompanied by residents, stated that they did not yet know the exact cause of the fire. Suddenly, residents saw the victim's house on fire.
Residents immediately tried to extinguish the fire and called for help from firefighters.
"Residents also tried to douse the house of the victim's neighbor, namely Aklima Jalil (75 years old), who is also a widow, because the fire had hit the wood on the roof of the house several meters to the west of Mrs. Makhayiwah's house," said the village head.
