Hundreds of flood and landslide victims from several villages in Bireuen, along with the Bireuen Civil Movement Coalition, held a demonstration at the Bireuen government headquarters on Monday (March 16, 2026).

The flood victims' demonstration, coordinated by Halimah from the Anti-Corruption School (SAK), aimed to urge the government to fulfill the unmet rights of flood victims.

The demonstrators carried banners and posters containing condemnation and demands. In her speech, a flood victim from Suratinnur, Kapa Village, Peusangan District, Bireuen Regency, tearfully recounted her ordeal as flood victims for nearly four months.

"We are already traumatized as flood victims. Our rights to housing, including temporary housing (tempara), temporary housing (huntap), and other forms of assistance, must not be ignored," she said, crying.

He said he felt more comfortable living in a tent in the courtyard of the Bireuen Regent's office, as there were shady trees, making it cooler. It wasn't as hot as in the hot villages.

"I don't want to rent a house to you, but it turns out it's a nursing home. That's a place for the elderly," he said, sobbing.

He said he would remain in the refugee camp until their demands were met by the Bireuen Regency Government.

The protesters were met by the Acting Regional Secretary of Bireuen, Hanafiah; Assistant I Mulyadi; Assistant II Mawardi; the Head of the Bireuen Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda), Dailami; and the Head of the Housing and Settlements Agency, Fadhli.

The demonstration was guarded by dozens of security personnel from the Bireuen Police.
