The burden of salt and the foolishness of a donkey

STORY

Donkey trick

A salt merchant used to go to the market every day with a sack of salt on his donkey's back. On the way, he had to cross a small river. One day, while crossing, the donkey suddenly slipped and fell into the water. As much of the salt dissolved in the water, the donkey's load became very light. The donkey was very happy.

The next day, the donkey deliberately fell into the river so that the load would be light. The owner understood his trick. On the third day, the owner put a sack of cotton on the donkey's back instead of salt. The donkey dove into the river as usual. But this time, the cotton absorbed the water and became several times heavier. The donkey got tired of carrying that heavy load and learned a lesson.
