Group Stage - Points Table

  • Well, after 12 matches, the Group stage ended, mostly as anticipated. From group A, India advanced to the Super 4, quite easily winning all three matches. They played very relaxed, making unortodox batting order, etc. And Pakistan joined them, defeating Oman and the UAE.

Anyhow, group B was a bit competitive with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan trying to move forward. Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh, and Bangladesh beat Afghanistan. So, everything comes to the result between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. So, with a classy match, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh moved to the Super 04.

Highlights from the Group stage

  • Well, almost all the matches in the Group stage were one-sided. There were some moments, but they didn't excite much. Many think Afghanistan would have done damage. But their performance was not up to their talk.

  • The 11th Match between Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan was very crucial at that stage, as three teams' fates were on it. Afghanistan started the batting, and their batsmen couldn't do much once again. Wickets started to fall, especially Nuwan Thushara was unplayable. After 18 overs, they were just 120/7, when Nabhi did the damage. In the 17 over, Wellalage dropped him for 6, and paid the price then. In the 19th, he smashed Chameera for 17 runs. And against Wellalage, he crucified Wellalage for 32 runs with 5 straight sixes. He scored 60 off 22 balls, making 169/8.

Sri Lanka lost the consistent Nissanka early. But Kusal Mendis got the lead role, scoring 74 runs and finishing the match in 18.4 overs.

  • The final Group stage match between India and Oman became very interesting. Everyone thought it would be over soon. But surprisingly Oman resisted well, and gave a wonderful attack to India.

So, let's see how the tournament is going. As usual, India got a fiery start with the destruction from Abhishek Sharma. Samson made a fifty, and they managed 188/8. Chasing it, Oman got a steady start. They lost their first wicket for 56. However, they were quite slow against quality Indian bowlers. Then Aamir Kaleem and Hammad Mirza added a 93-run partnership, both scoring fifties. These two hammered sixes and came so close. But unfortunately, India was good at the pressure situations, and won the match by 21 runs.

Super Four

Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh advanced to the Super Four.
