Weekly CRICKET Review - CXi | King's Return
Hello, fellow Cricket Enthusiasts,
You already know that I am sharing a weekly wrap-up of what's happening within the Cricket community. And it's the 111th edition now.
As I discussed in the last weeks, we conclude the Asia Cup 2025, India became the champions defeating Pakistan in the finals. And now we are back to the usuals. So, let's see what's going on!
South Africa tour of Pakistan, 2025
It's a big series of 2 Tests, 3 ODIs, 3 T20S from Oct 12 - Nov 08.
After Pakistan got the lead in the first match, South Africa did well to come back strongly and level the series. The match was held at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi. Pakistan started the batting and they scored 333/10. Shafique, Saud Shakeel, and Massood contributed with fifties. Mahraj was the destroyer, taking 7 wickets.
In the chase, Pakistan did really good at the start. SA lost the openers for 54 runs, and then Tony de Zorzi and Stubbs scored fifties to have a crucial partnership. But from there, once again, Pakistan broke the tide, with the score of 235/8. Anyhow, out of nowhere, the tail did a remarkable job. Senuran Muthusamy paired with Maharaj to score 71 runs for the ninth wicket, and with Rabada to score 98 runs for the last wicket. They were just as cruel as Muthusami scored 89 runs, while Rbada added a quick 71 runs. SA scored 404/10.Asif Afridi took six wickets.
- Starting with 71 runs behind, Pakistan could only score 138/10 in the second inning. Babar scored a fifty and Harmer took 6 wickets. So, it was an easy task for the Proteas as they won the match with 8 wickets remaining. Senuran Muthusamy became the man of the series.
India tour of Australia, 2025
Well, India is in Australia for 5 T20S and 3 ODIs. And more excitingly, after many months, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma returned to the national team. But it didn't become ideal, especially for Kohli, as expected by the whole world. He scored back-to-back ducks in the first two ODI matches. Will this be his final tournament?
The first match was held at Perth Stadium, Perth. It was ruined by rain, and the match was revised to 26 overs. Opting to bat first, India didn't find it easy. On the bouncy pitch, Aussie pacers were just phenomenal. Especially Hazlewood balled a straight spell at the front for 7-2-22-2. Starc took Kohli for a duck, and it was just 8 runs from Sharma's return. Only Axar and Rahul scored 30+ scores, making it 126/9 in the 26 overs.
Mitchell Marsh started the chase well at the front, even after Head and Short were out early. With the help of Josh Philippe and Renshaw, they finished it with 7 wickets and 5 overs remaining.
- The second match was held at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide. India batted first and scored 264/9. This time Rohit got the form and scored 79 runs, but he was a bit slow despite his real nature. Shreyas Iyer added 61 runs. Zampa took 4 wickets.
Australia lost Marsh early, and India kept taking regular wickets. Anyhow, with the batting depth Australia has, it was their game all along. Matthew Short scored 74 runs, and Cooper Connolly added a quick 61 runs; Mitchell Owen helped him. Once again, Australia won by 2 wkts.
England tour of New Zealand, 2025
England is in New Zealand for 3 T20S and 3 ODIs. Out of three T20Is, unfortunately, two of them were canceled due to rain.
The second match was held at Hagley Oval, Christchurch. England batted first, and it was a mighty effort from them. Phill Salt scored 85 runs off 56 balls at the top. But it was Harry Brook who really did the job. He added 78 runs off just 35 balls with 5 massive sixes. So, England scored 236/4 in their 20 overs.
Eventhough Kiwis tried hard, they couldn't do much about it. They were all out for 171 in 18 overs.
