Today I will write about a spice shop in my city, and I will pin it up on the Steem Atlas map. I hope everyone likes it.

On a scale of 1 to 5, how would you rate the variety of spices and seasonings offered by this store? Please provide details in your answer.

Since I will blog about spice shops today, I have gone to a busy area of our area called Jurain. The Jurain area is very busy here; it is even busier because there is a bus stand next to the market.

There are all kinds of shops in the market, but spice shops are more plentiful than in other markets. Spices are one of the ingredients that we add to our daily food list. There is a lot of demand for this spice in the Asian continent, so it is very familiar in every house in our country.

"Billal Spicy Store" in Jurain Market is a very famous shop in the market. All kinds of spices are available here, including -

  • Chili powder
  • Turmeric powder
  • Bay leaf
  • Cardamom
  • Cloves
  • Cumin seeds
  • Garam masala
  • Chicken masala
  • Kebab masala
  • Cinnamon
  • Soup masala
  • Haleem masala
  • Garlic
  • Ginger

This shop is known in the market for having all kinds of spices, so everyone from far and wide buys spices from here. The price is lower than in other shops. Wholesale products are sold here, but sometimes they sell retail, and for retail, the price is slightly higher than the wholesale price. No other products are sold here.

After purchasing the product, there is a payment method at the cashier where Mr. Billal is the founder of this shop he sits at the cashier counter. However, the name of this shop is kept in accordance with his name.

What is the spice or seasoning that is always in your pantry?

The spices that I always keep in my pantry are -

  • Cardamom

  • Cinnamon

  • Cloves

  • Peppercorns

  • Dried chilies

  • Red chili powder

  • Turmeric powder

  • Black pepper, etc.

  • Bay leaves

These types of spices are always kept in our pantry. Spices are more preferred and consumed in the Asian continent than in other continents. No dish is cooked without spices, so spices are present with the dish every day.

The spice shop is a well-known one in our markets, and this shop keeps spices in the market as well as in the local shops. Because it is the only ingredient necessary for our daily food. This shop is open every day of the week and is open from 9 am to 10 pm.

There are 2 types of spices available in this shop, some spices are in packet form, which are good, and their price is a little higher. There is another one without the packet, which is a little cheaper.

However, this shop keeps the price of the product low. The packet spices are in a fixed quantity, and the ones without the packet are sold in kilograms. There is a separate digital scale in the shop through which the spices are measured.

I have given the prices of some spices below.

What do you consider to be the spice or condiment that defines the gastronomy of your country or city?

Since I am Bangladeshi, I understand the food of Bangladesh or the city best, so in my opinion, the most important spice that determines the dietary characteristics of Bangladesh is pepper (red chili and green chili) 🌶️.

However, not only one spice makes it completely delicious, but several other spices together create the taste of our food—

🌶️ Pepper:
This is the soul of Bangladeshi cooking. Food does not seem “food” to us without salt. Especially in food, stews, broths, and stir-fries, pepper is essential everywhere.

🌿 Turmeric:
It has color, aroma and healthiness - all three are present. Turmeric is used in almost all dishes. Without turmeric, the food seems raw.

🧄 Garlic:
It adds depth to the taste of food. Especially in fish and meat dishes, if garlic is not added, that "desi taste" does not come, so garlic is definitely added to such dishes.

🌰 Cumin:
Cumin, fried or powdered - both are used in dishes. The aroma and taste of the broth remain incomplete without cumin.

All in all, it determines the characteristics of Bangladeshi food.

Chilli + turmeric + garlic + cumin - a combination of these four spices. It maintains the taste of our food as well as its tradition.

That day, I went to buy a single spice called Joan from this shop, which is added to all dishes. When added, it enhances the taste and aroma of the cooking.
