Greetings everyone! This Mohammad Sumon! from #Bangladesh

SLC31-W6: THE GREEN JOURNEY | Sustainable Legacy
I am participating in this contest with a small but effective habit of my daily life and a route I know. The specific topic I have chosen for this contest is Walking instead of using transport. In light of this contest, I have tried to share my thoughts and experiences.
Walking instead of using transport
In my view, The Green Journey is a lifestyle where every person consciously decides not to harm nature in their daily activities. It is not just about planting trees or talking big about the environment, but changing our small daily habits.

Its importance in the current world: The current world is facing climate change, global warming, and severe air pollution. The unplanned use of fossil fuels (oil and gas) that we are using is pushing the world towards destruction. If we do not reduce carbon emissions right now, we will not have air to breathe in the future. So there is no alternative to this green journey to live healthily.

My chosen topic is walking instead of using a car, bus, or rickshaw for short-distance travel.
My actual route: Every day, I go to my destination or office via Hatirjheel Road, one of the busiest areas of Dhaka, through Mohakhali Bus Stand.
- My Route: Mohakhali Bus Stand ───(Walking)───► Hatirjheel Road (Green and Quiet Environment)
- Location: Bir Uttam Mir Shawkat Road, Mohakhali, Dhaka-1208

Walking instead of using motorized vehicles can play a significant role in environmental protection and sustainable development in several ways:
Role in protecting the environment: The Mohakhali Bus Stand area is covered with heavy traffic jams and black smoke from cars. If I took a CNG or bike on this route every day, it would add more carbon dioxide to the air. But because I walk, I am reducing my daily carbon footprint to zero.
Sustainability: It saves the country's energy. If even a few thousand people in a small city start walking half a kilometre every day, thousands of litres of fuel will be saved, which directly contributes to sustainable economic and environmental development.

In terms of your personal experience behind this habit, I can say that I have been walking this part of the Hatirjheel Road from Mohakhali for a long time. I am honestly sharing two aspects of this personal experience:
Positive aspects/Benefits (in my opinion): |
|---|
Physical and mental peace: When I walk through the green trees on the banks of Hatirjheel Lake after crossing the hustle and bustle of Mohakhali, the cool morning breeze makes me feel good. This daily walk has kept my weight under control and is keeping my heart healthy.
Saving time and money: With the traffic jams in Dhaka, you can reach your destination much earlier by walking than sitting in a car. Along with this, daily travel expenses are also saved.

|---|
Negative aspects or challenges (in my opinion): |
|---|
Weather and sidewalks: It is quite difficult to walk on the sidewalks of Dhaka with an umbrella on your head and tread in mud and water during the intense heat of summer or rainy days. Besides, many times the sidewalks are occupied by hawkers, so you have to walk on the main road, which is a bit risky. However, I accept this small inconvenience for the greater good of the environment.

My message or suggestion to leave a sustainable legacy for future generations is that we leave a lot of money or property for our children, but if we cannot leave clean air and a green world for them, then everything is in vain. My suggestion to create a sustainable legacy is
Practice walking for short distances: Practice walking or cycling for a distance of 1-2 kilometers without using any mechanical means.
Start learning from the family: When I walk, my children or younger members of the family learn by watching. They need to be accustomed to environmentally friendly habits from a young age.
Plastic elimination and tree planting: Reduce the use of plastic at the personal level and plant at least one tree around the house.

Conclusion
A green world will not be created by any magic touch; it is the result of the collective efforts of all of us. My daily walk from Mohakhali to Hatirjheel Road may be a very small step, but such small steps will one day bring about a big change. Let us reduce the mechanization and step towards nature.
I have set 10% as a beneficiary for @steem-atlas to support this project. |
