The Real Video Vlogging Adventure Challenge

In my opinion, every single day, thousands of lives revolve around local traditional hubs to fulfill their core daily needs. This post documents my live video-vlogging adventure, where I explored the raw energy, real-time products, and local lifestyle of Manikdi Bazar (in Dhaka Cantonment) during a typical rainy day.

A Rainy Day Exploration of Manikdi Bazar: My Live Vlogging Adventure

I visited a traditional local market called Manikadi Bazar located under the Dhaka Cantonment area of ​​Dhaka.

Compared to other common markets in the city, ****Manikadi Bazar has some unique features****. Being under the cantonment area, this market has a traditional style, but it maintains a nice structural order. Moreover, its most unique aspect is that it has the same old rural atmosphere of selling fresh vegetables or fruits from a van on the road, as well as modern aquariums and pet shops. To me, all in all, this market can meet all the daily needs of people of different incomes under one roof, which makes it much more diverse and attractive than other markets.

While touring the entire market in my video, I found two parts the most interesting and wonderful:

• Mobile vans and local fruits: In addition to the permanent shops in the market, many small traders bring fresh vegetables and fruits directly in bicycle vans. I saw very fresh raw vegetables and our local fruit, lotkon, and jam being sold there. At the same time, I liked the presence of bright pink dragon fruit next to the traditional raw mangoes.

• Exotic aquarium and pet shop: It was a different experience for me to suddenly see a shop called Singapore Fish Aquarium (SK Smart Pet Food & Exotic Pet Gallery) inside this traditional raw market. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the market, this collection of exotic fish arranged in aquariums, caged exotic birds, and various types of animal food made the whole blog much more interesting.

I have listed below a list of the prices of some of the major daily necessities available in the market during my visit:

Manikadi Bazar is a true reflection of the common lifestyle and economic struggles of our local people. My video captures the timeless form of our ever-familiar market culture—where rickshaws and auto-rickshaws ply through narrow lanes, and vendors loudly call out to attract buyers.

Even with the heavy rains that lashed the sky, the daily activities of the people did not stop for a moment. Ordinary shoppers, umbrellas in hand, ignored the muddy and waterlogged roads to come out of their homes to buy fresh produce for their families. This market reflects the culture of interdependence in our society; lower- and middle-class families rely heavily on the bargains in this market to manage their monthly budget. This proves that these local markets are not just places to shop, but they are the heartbeat of our society.

The most extraordinary and spontaneous moment of my entire blog was the sudden onset of monsoon rain. Shooting a live video through the muddy metropolis, where water was splashing as I drove past, added a realistic and thrilling feel to the entire video.

The aerial view of the sky was part of the fish market. As the fish vendors cut the fish, their quick, friendly smiles and chatter towards me gave the entire video a completely human touch. Finally, when I took the peace of the aquarium to escape the intense intensity, the contrast between the noisy muddy environment and the calm, gentle, and sparkling environment spoke even more to my vlog viewers.

Conclusion

In my opinion, this rainy day spent at Manikadi Bazar was not just an ordinary market trip experience, but rather a living testament to the daily struggle and indomitable will of our local people. Despite the adverse weather and muddy roads, the interaction and engagement between each buyer and seller deeply impressed me. In particular, the diverse presence of a modern pet shop in the very center of the traditional raw market indicates the economic dynamism and modern needs of the entire area. Through this video vlog and post of mine, I have tried to portray this vibrant local culture and way of life of our Bangladesh on a global platform.
