Hi, I'm new to Steem and I know you can look at tags and search subject areas but the search engine is far less than ideal and I don't just want to support Whales in the trending and hot sections, nor do I feel it right to support some people who pay for promotion but unfortunately the new section on most of the tags im interested in is so congested with Spam or people shovelling trash to try and earn a quick buck it seems very difficult to actually find someone genuine who just posts about things I want to see on Steem. Mainly Crypto news, gaming, comedy, sketches, young video makers or travelling. Any help would be much appreciated!
Yeah, I absolutely understand what you mean dcspectre...I am fairly new myself and it took a few hours to get the hang of the interface...I dont use the search bar, instead i search under "new" and scroll through based on those tags:
For instance: "new" for tag 'cryptocurrencies' and try for each tag...once you find a post I like, I will follow that community member so they arrive in "my feed". Then u can use your feed to search for the members you like.
I hope this helps!
Thanks I guess I will just try to build them up slowly! I agree, think they need to work on the search bar a little. :P

I understand. It took me a little while to find the trick too.
The very best way to find people who have posts that you like is to find just a few that you like then look at the people who comment on those posts or who upvote those posts. Many of the people who visit the posts that you like are the people who will be making similar posts or who will be following similar bloggers.
You might want to leave intelligent replies to the posts that you like for the same reason. People who are looking for similar content will be more likely to come to your blog if they think you can speak intelligently about the same topics as the ones you reply to.
