Vests are the amount of % shares you have in the STEEM POWER vesting pool, I believe:
Go to https://steemd.com/ and see there on the right side.
There is
total_vesting_fund_steemwhich is the total steem that is in SP, and your vests are the amount of shares you hold of that pool I believe.
