Gelada|Meet a Wonderful Animal Every Day 004
1️⃣ The gelada is a large monkey living in the Ethiopian highlands, named for the small tuft at the end of its tail. It looks like a baboon but belongs to its own unique genus and spends most of its day on the ground.
2️⃣ Geladas love company—they can gather in groups of hundreds! Within these big gatherings, smaller families of about 20 individuals form stable units. Though once considered baboons, they are now recognized as a separate genus.
3️⃣ There used to be four species in the gelada family. The biggest one, Theropithecus oswaldi, is extinct, leaving only today’s gelada species alive.
