As the fasting month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah approaches on February 18, 2026, some types of coffee grounds are becoming increasingly difficult to find. This isn't just in Aceh, but also in Medan, North Sumatra. It was the same last year, and it's the same this year.

So, when we went to Medan in the first week of January 2026, we took advantage of the opportunity to find Nescafe coffee grounds in sachets. They were scarce in Aceh due to flooding and damage to road and bridge infrastructure along the Medan-Banda Aceh road, which serves as the trans-Sumatra route.

We didn't have a wholesale network in Medan, so we searched online and found Toko Niaga Jaya. At first, I doubted the shop would be open on holidays, but we decided to visit.

Toko Niaga Jaya doesn't have a social media account, making it difficult for us to find the location. We relied solely on Google Maps to find it, and it was very easy because it's located on Jalan Veteran, within Medan. After this, you can use @steem-atlas to find this shop.

The shop is owned by a Chinese businessman and has been around since the 1980s. This is evident from the old-fashioned building.

They have a warehouse nearby. So, if you need more groceries, they'll transport them from the warehouse to the store, and they'll be there in less than five minutes, even loaded directly into customers' cars.

Even on a holiday, I saw a lot of shoppers there. At least eight employees were serving customers, including couriers who transported items from the warehouse to the store. There were also employees busy packaging items and shipping them online. It was fascinating to watch them work diligently.

The Niaga Jaya store in Medan sells a variety of groceries and daily necessities. Items sold include instant spices, coffee, soy sauce, instant noodles, agar-agar, and other kitchen essentials at wholesale prices.

Spices & Seasonings: Desaku Marinade, Ladaku ground pepper, Royco, Masako, Finna, Bango sweet soy sauce, Sasa cooking spices, Sajiku seasoned flour, and Matahari sesame oil.

They also stock various brands of ground coffee and soft drinks. We searched for Nescafe and found it for Rp690 per box. Not too cheap, as we can find it for less in North Aceh. However, it's currently scarce.

We only bought 1 box of Nomos Jumbo mosquito coils, 8 boxes of Nescafe sachets, 1 box of Sajiku cooking spices, and 1 box of Lifebuoy body wash. Our total purchase was Rp6,405,000, equivalent to 5,898 #steem at the time of writing.

At the Niaga Jaya store, customers can pay in cash, use QRIS, which is currently a popular choice among Indonesians, or transfer to several banks. They even offer Bank Aceh accounts. Many of their customers are likely from Aceh.

One advantage of shopping here is that customers can purchase a variety of other necessities not available at the Niaga Jaya store. There are many similar grocery stores on the left and right sides, as well as in front. The shop owners are friendly in recommending other stores if they don't have what they need.[]
