Converting from Petrol to Gas

The Propane Adapter
Rewind to the year 380 BC and pay attention, you should hear Plato insinuating that popular saying that "necessity is the mother of invention"
It seems his actual words were "our need will be the real creator" but whatever or however he said it, Nigerians' growing need for steady power has given birth to the use of this adapter that morphs your generator such that it can accept either petrol or propane as fuel.
Below is the pack I just received. It cost 15,000 Naira. Let's put it at 140.4 steem for a single unit.
The packaging is nice and simple, secured in polyethene bubble wrap that provides protection during transportation.
Content
The pack contains the main adapter unit.
A short, flexible fuel host.
A chuck lever for adjusting air intake.
This is the model: 2KW/GX160(LPG)
Needed items/materials
- We need a functioning generator,
- The gas carburettor
- A gas cylinder filled with propane gas
- A long gas host
- Ring and flat spanners
Generator

This is the generator to be modified. It is a 3.0 KVA (kilovolt-ampere) petrol generator that produces an output of 230V of AC and DC 12V/8A.
Gas Cylinder
For the gas cylinder, I have a 12.5 kg cylinder with a host. An 8 kg cylinder would equally serve the purpose.
Concerns
Running a generator with petrol as fuel gives the generator a slightly more powerful output, compared to running it with propane gas. But this concern is easily addressed by increasing the generator's RPM for more power.
Because propane gas is cheaper than petrol, a user will only incur a huge start-up amount but will be cheaper in the long run.
The introduction of the gas carburettor does not damage the generator in any way. Instead, it makes the generator run smoothly with less smoke and noise.
For risk of fire, the gas cylinder is fitted with a flame arrestor, and the carburettor also has its flame trap doubling the safety feature in the system.
Advantage
One litre of petrol is ₦ 930
But one Kg of gas is ₦1300, a difference of 130.
| Fuel | Cost | Run time |
|---|---|---|
| Petrol | 8.7 Steem | 3.45 hours |
| Propane | 12.2 Steem | 7.2 hours |
Petrol:
1 liter = 930 Naira
Runs for 3.45 hours
Cost per hour = 930 ÷ 3.45 ≈ 269.57 Naira/hour
Propane:
1 kg = 1300 Naira
Runs for 7.2 hours
Cost per hour = 1300 ÷ 7.2 ≈ 180.56 Naira/hour
Conclusion
Using gas in the long run save about 33% of fuel consumption and gas is potentially cheaper to run and is even better for the environment.

Wow, there was a time this was a trend around my neighborhood, but then I was thinking about the dangers it can cause, with the benefits you outlined I think gas is more economical compared to feul.

There is something better in the making...
The plan is to come up with a system that uses water to run the generator.
I just hope the project works...
That's great
Though some people prefare this to a normal fuel generator because is less expenses
The thought of using water as the fuel for the generator is an even more amazing idea, far less expensive and evolutionary.
