"SLC27-W1 | A One-Day Street Journalist: Festival-centric business."
Hello friends,
Assalamu Alaikum, how are you all? I hope everyone is well. Today I will share with you, the review of some food stalls at the festival center on the day of the festival. Basically, it is a Durga Puja festival. And I will share with you this festival that is held at our Daganbhuiyan Central Durga Temple. It is located in Daganbhuiyan, Feni district. Every year, the Durga festival is celebrated here with great pomp and show. And during this festival, it is decorated with many beautiful lights. Again, a very beautiful gate is decorated in front of their temple. And during this festival, many stalls are set up in front of the temple. Where food or various kinds of things are sold. However, when we went, we saw a few small street food stalls here. These stalls have been set up around this festival. We saw a lot of people here. Everyone comes here to see this festival. And those who come here because of the festival, all buy things from these stalls. We ourselves also ate and drank from here. And the atmosphere of this festival is very beautiful.
01 What are the Festival-centric businesses in your area?
If we talk about festival-oriented businesses in our area, then the first thing that comes to mind is some food shop businesses. But when we say food shop, here we mean some fast food shops. Again, it can be seen that these street food shops are more common nowadays. Especially nowadays, we can see Bhelpuri shops, Jhal Muri shops, Phuchka shops, egg shops, various creative fruit shops, and also boots and nuts.

In other words, there are many other shops. However, these businesses are seen a little more. When we went before the Puja festival, we saw more such shops there. And I think it is convenient for them to sit on the side of the road anywhere nowadays. Because they can take their business from one place to another. This gives them a lot of convenience.
02 Have you ever bought anything from these stores? Show pictures + videos and show their prices.
Yes, of course I bought a lot of things from these shops. But when I went to the puja mandap that day, I bought and ate bhelpuri from a bhelpuri shop. Sometimes I like to eat such foods. Especially in the evening, I like to eat these foods a lot. Although there were many shops in front of the puja festival. But I like to eat bhelpuri a lot, so I ate bhelpuri. I like to eat a little spicy. So I ordered it with more spiciness. And I liked it very much. Also, I sometimes buy and eat things from these shops. Especially jhalmuri is my favorite food. So basically, food is eaten here occasionally. Moreover, it is quite good to eat such foods while standing during these festivals.

03 Why are people more attracted to street stalls during festivals?
In fact, there are many reasons why everyone is attracted to street shops during festivals. However, I will say that during festivals, street shops are available at much lower prices than large stores. This makes it much more convenient for everyone. It is also seen that various types of products are sold during festivals. Especially, many times it is seen that clothes, jewelry, toys, decorations, and many types of items including food are available together. And everyone buys them happily.
Again, it is seen that special discounts and offers are given in these shops around the festival. This also makes buyers interested in buying. I also think that buyers can easily shop at fairs or from street shops. Also, during festivals, there is a lot of fun and joyous atmosphere. Then there are a lot of people around these shops. People enjoy a lot and shop together. Again, it is seen that while walking along the street, if someone likes something, they buy it. Many times, in such a festive atmosphere, many traditional handmade products are available in street shops. And people are very attracted to these. This makes people buy their products.
04 Are these businesses contributing to preserving local culture?
I would say that these businesses contribute a lot to the local culture and tradition. Among them, it is seen that many times handmade items are sold in these places. And which keep the local industry and tradition alive. It is also seen that many types of food prepared in various sectors are sold in such festivals or fairs. And people then eat these handmade foods and feel their taste. In this way, traditional foods reconnect people with their own taste. And people will not forget them. Also, many times, many types of items made by their own local craftsmen are sold.
Which cannot be found except during such fairs or festivals. In this way, they can sustain these works of art. It is seen that in the area where these festivals are made, some of the products or some of the decorations of that area can be seen here. Which introduces people from other areas to the local culture. It is also seen that many shops are handed down from generation to generation. That means if a father starts a business, his son does that business later. In this case, the generation can also teach the new generation the same traditional techniques of making and selling. In fact, it also sustains the local economy. In this case, it can be said that these small businesses in villages or cities basically help to maintain tradition.
