Rehearsal Update: P1 Pupils Tackle Bullying Through Song and Drama

The Basic 1 pupils at Winners Vineyard Academy were back in rehearsal today, working on their drama "Say No to Bullying" ahead of the End-of-Term Party and Graduation Ceremony on 26th July. This time, the focus shifted to a song that ties the whole performance together.

The song is called "Don't Let Bullying Bring You Down," and honestly, the title says most of it. It's built around a simple idea — that what someone says about you doesn't get to decide who you are.

If a classmate says something hurtful, you don't have to carry that around or let it sink in. You talk to someone you trust, you keep your head up, and you keep going.

What stood out during rehearsal wasn't just that the kids knew the words. They were acting it out — facial expressions, little gestures, the kind of thing six-year-olds do when they actually understand what they're singing about rather than just repeating it.

A few of them really leaned into the sad parts and then the "stay strong" parts, and you could tell the message was landing somewhere.

There's also a quieter lesson running underneath all of this. The drama isn't just for the stage — it's meant to stick with them. Bullying happens, words can sting, but none of that should be allowed to take away a child's happiness or sense of worth.

And just as importantly, the pupils are learning that kindness toward others and speaking up when something's wrong aren't separate lessons — they go together.

By the time the 26th of July comes around, these pupils will be performing more than a song. They'll be carrying a message the whole school could use: that everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued — and that no one has to face unkindness alone.

I think this is the right time to instill upon the young children before they become young adult that bullying isn't really the way and making them know how to address their emotions when the time comes.
