One of the most difficult periods of my life was when I faced serious financial challenges and had to do several menial jobs to survive. I worked on soakaway construction, concrete work, block molding and block laying, as well as other physically demanding jobs.

What's something that happened to you and felt impossible to get through but you did?

There were days when I left home very early and returned exhausted, yet the money I earned was barely enough to meet my needs.

At times, I felt discouraged because the future seemed uncertain, and I wondered if my hard work would ever lead to something better. However, I refused to give up. I continued working honestly, learning new skills, and believing that my situation would improve. Looking back today, I am grateful that I persevered through that difficult season because it taught me resilience, discipline, and the value of hard work.

How has this tough time changed what you value most?

My experience doing menial jobs changed the way I view life and success. Before facing those challenges, I thought success was mainly about having money and a comfortable lifestyle. However, after working on construction sites, carrying blocks, mixing concrete, and digging soakaway pits, I learned to value hard work, good health, and opportunity.

I gained a deep respect for people who do manual labor every day to provide for themselves and their families. The experience also taught me to appreciate every source of income, no matter how small. Most importantly, I learned to value perseverance and integrity. Those difficult times showed me that honest work is honorable and that true success is built through patience, determination, and consistent effort rather than shortcuts.

What's a small win you've had recently that felt huge?

A small win that felt huge was being able to earn enough from my work to take care of an important need without depending on anyone else. After spending time doing soakaway jobs, concrete work, block work, and other labor-intensive tasks, receiving payment for my efforts gave me a sense of accomplishment.

The amount may not have seemed significant to others, but to me, it represented progress and independence. It reminded me that every day of hard work was contributing to a better future. That achievement boosted my confidence and motivated me to keep pushing forward despite the challenges. It also reinforced my belief that success is not always about big breakthroughs; sometimes it is about the small victories that prove you are moving in the right direction.

What's a new perspective you've gained in life or yourself?

One important perspective I have gained is that no job is too small when it is done honestly. Working on soakaway projects, mixing concrete, and handling block work taught me humility and gave me a greater appreciation for laborers and artisans. I realized that many people underestimate the effort required to do such jobs. Through those experiences, I discovered that I am stronger and more determined than I thought.

I learned how to endure difficult conditions, stay focused on my goals, and keep working even when things are tough. The experience also taught me not to judge people based on their current circumstances because everyone has a story and a struggle that others may not see. This has made me more compassionate and respectful toward others.

Is it really true that "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger"? Why?

From my personal experience, I believe there is truth in the saying, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." The period when I had to survive through soakaway work, concrete work, block laying, and other menial jobs was physically and emotionally demanding. There were days when I felt tired, frustrated, and uncertain about what the future held. However, those experiences taught me lessons that I could not have learned in comfort.

They strengthened my work ethic, increased my resilience, and taught me the importance of patience and persistence. While challenges can be painful, they can also help people discover strengths they never knew they had. Because of those experiences, I now have greater confidence in my ability to overcome difficulties and face future challenges with determination and courage.
