The agreement was executed on Monday at the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP), in the presence of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of AKICORP, Mr. Imo-Abasi Jacob, and the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Ibom LNG & Logistics Base Ltd, Chief Jimmy Ntuen.
Speaking at the signing, Mr. Jacob said the state government remains committed to attracting private-sector investments and accelerating economic development through structured partnerships in key growth sectors.
“This agreement underscores the government’s determination to create an enabling environment for investors and to unlock the state’s energy potential,” he said.
The NDA provides the framework for collaboration on Ibom LNG’s proposed development of a 100–150 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) mini LNG plant, alongside an integrated logistics base and port at Akpabom in Eastern Obolo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The project is planned on a 35-hectare site within the Liberty Oil and Gas Free Zone, a 50,215-hectare area designated by the Akwa Ibom State Government for oil and gas investments.
Ibom LNG & Logistics Base Ltd is positioning itself as an emerging gas export facility, with long-term plans to export Nigerian natural gas to global markets through a scalable LNG project with an ultimate capacity of up to 10 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
The Liberty Oil and Gas Free Zone offers strategic advantages for the project, including tax incentives, simplified customs procedures, and proximity to key maritime routes. The zone is expected to evolve into a major hub for downstream oil and gas activities, strengthening Nigeria’s position in energy logistics, manufacturing, and export-oriented infrastructure.
Industry observers say the partnership could enhance investor confidence in Akwa Ibom State while supporting Nigeria’s broader gas commercialization and energy transition objectives
