"SC-S31/W1-Movie Magic | Movie About Choices (Behind the Scenes)
This movie reminded me of when I faked being in the hospital to see who really loved me sometime back last year. It was a good strike, but that singular action made me realise something, and there were consequences to my actions. Let me tell you about Behind the Scenes, a movie that was first streamed in cinemas before being placed for downloads or to be watched by the masses.
If you've watched this movie, the movie cooked, the actors and actresses cooked, and the plot was just on point. Never had I known what would happen subsequently; unlike most Nigerian movies, you can tell the end from the middle or beginning. It's a masterpiece, the second best of Funke Akindele's movies.
The movie is a must-watch, a cinematic view where one single action which was led by choices changed everything and brought about the name behind the scenes.

About the Movie |
|---|
Behind the Scenes is a Nollywood-based movie with Nigerian protagonists. The movie is a box office movie, with the producer being one of the biggest box office movie producers in Nigeria, Funke. She named the movie "Behind the Scenes" because in life, there's definitely the other part you're not seeing.
A successful woman who was filthy rich because of her businesses and investments; she did have two siblings who dropped out of school because of their choices in life. Seeing that their sister is successful and already ready to help them, they became parasites, always asking for help to do businesses they won't do, just to get the money from her.
They became privileged people, reaping from where they did not sow and lavishing the money to obtain the lifestyle instead of investing this money in a business that'll give them more money. **This woman named Aderonke, who's supporting her siblings, has two kids and is bereaved of her husband. **She thought she was being helpful to them and her friends, not knowing they were just extorting from her and not appreciating all she had done by their actions.

Even her friends benefited from her and wanted to be like her. How do you tell people who really love you or are just waiting for the time they'll experience your downfall? Her best friend warned her about spending so much on her siblings who didn't value her kindness. She didn't see it as a big deal. She just felt responsible for help.
At some point, she was diagnosed with lupus, an incurable disease but one that can be managed well. Even with her condition, her siblings made her regret all she did for them. Both of them always have issues, and they never stick together even when she tries her best to bring them together.
So decided to do something that changed everything, the narrative and plot, and brought out the name of the movie to full light.
What single decision in the movie changed everything? |
|---|
The decision she took made us see who the devils are. I was shocked. She decided to fake her death while managing her lupus with the assistance of her family and then framed everything to look like a well-written script for her siblings and friends to believe at max. *The secret was only known by those who played it out and confided in.

The reason she made this decision was to see if her siblings will change their ways even after her death and do things to replicate the favour she showed to them when she was alive. She went to an abandoned house, faraway from her house, but before doing so, she installed cameras everywhere so that she could view it from where she was staying.

|---|
She was behind the scenes in parables. This changed everything because she would have to risk taking care of her children, putting them in suspense that she went for a trip and using other modalities. But the good thing is that she would monitor what's going on in the house and how her sister and brother would behave on hearing she's dead.
Her decision stood and was implemented with precautionary measures taken into consideration. Her decision to fake her death exposed her evil sister, who claimed everything her sister owned, thinking she was dead. She went as far as selling all her sister owned to lavish them on certain things that weren't worth it.
She treated Aderonke's children with contempt, and it got to a point where her children ran out of the house because of maltreatment. She didn't even care to look for them. So this is what would have happened if Aderonke were really dead. Meanwhile, Aderonke was behind the scenes, catching all their nuisance, waiting for the right time to act till it got unbearable.

She had to end up the show she pulled at the expense of a lot of things which went wrong after her fake death. She got the answers she was looking for but at the expense of her best friend's life. This decision really changed everything from my narrative. Just this singular act created over 10 scenes.
She also discovered that her friend, her best friend, did something unforgivable to her, which I won't expose until you watch the movie. She wanted to be like Aderonke in lifestyle and fame; that's why she did something to foil her business and extort money from her.
What would you have done differently? |
|---|
If I were Aderonke, I wouldn't have gotten to such an extent. She was already late in righting her actions; that's why she did what she did to reveal the true colours of those she trusted and put them in their place. If she had avoided the unnecessary pampering and hardened her heart, her sister Adetutu would have taken life seriously, and her brother would also have been serious.
The room for being parasitic wouldn't have been there. Her best friend too wouldn't have been pampered enough to plot wicked schemes against her. Her best friend bit the finger that fed her, and that was bad. This is what I would have done, but since she was already at the stage of her breaking point, her decision was the best because I never knew she had wolves in sheep's clothing.
If I'm richer than my siblings, I won't give them the edge to be parasitic on me. I'll try my best to give them an edge to start a business for themselves instead of lavishing money. If they lavish it by any means, I'll allow them to face the consequences of their actions.
Did the character’s choice feel right or wrong to you? And why? |
|---|
To me, it felt right because it was at a critical point, and her choice made us see the true colours of people who can be ingrates. These are the very people you sacrificed in order for them to have a successful life instead of begging in the streets. They are still the ones rejoicing as if they were waiting for the day you'll die for them to take control of what you've built.
Even though she lost a friend in her decision, a lot of future mistakes were avoided, a lot were seen behind the scenes and a lot of actions were taken to mitigate such things from happening in the future. Her best friend was imprisoned. Her sister and minions were put to shame.
But another choice she made which I didn't think was right was that of forgiving her sister who was a wolf in sheep's clothing after everything. Anyways, the pain of not forgiving someone is usually faced by you. So the movie ended well. Her choices were conditional and for the best.
In life, choices are very difficult to make, especially when it comes to family matters, friends and love. The character's choice revealed a whole lot about life even though it came with a serious cost. In life, don't do too much for people. It's the same people that will bite the fingers that feed it.

It looks like we are in the spirit.
I saw this movie yesterday and even recommended it to my family and friends. The movie raised many legal issues:
These are real issues people face. It's at the face of these issues that's you'd know whether you have people who are there for you or not. I've done this as well, not necessarily faking my death because that's a crime in Nigeria. But I had to test the people around me to know who truly cared. The answer has guided me since then.
The movie is a must watch. It's on Netflix Nigeria. Just that those abroad would have to see it via the cinema or KavaTV because last I checked, it wasn't on netflix USA or Canada.

Yet to see this movie, I have heard so much about it. Good selection.
You have given a well detailed description of the movie which has earned you some score.
Our choices in life automatically affects the direction of our lives therefore we should should be careful how we go about it.
