Social media can be described as an online or internet-based facility that allows users to share content and engage in various forms of social interaction. Social media enhances interaction from a distance, it serves as a means of sharing information and a point of connecting people globally either through voice notes, text messages, images or videos. The usefulness of social media has made it a part of our day-to-day life, which we can access through our mobile phones and computer devices.

We have several social media platforms which enhance social activities and other related matters among which are:

At this point, I want to say that I am against the motion which says that social media is bad and should not be used. It can change one's thinking negatively. In this life, everything that has an advantage equally has a disadvantage. Many people use the social media platform to spread false information, scam others, promote social vices like pornography and also create enmity among us, I want to say that the positive side far outweighs the negative. Here are the positive sides and purposes of social media:

• Facilitate communication: Social media connects us to the wider world and allows us to communicate with friends, family, and even people we don't know. It also gives us the privilege to voice out our opinion and concern to the world from the comfort of our room. We also get free access to news and global conversation.

• Entertainment: Through social media, we get entertained with comedies, songs, poems, and quotations that lift our spirits, make us laugh and forget our sorrows.

• Business: Companies and individuals today have taken advantage of social media for marketing, promoting, networking and selling their brand. It is truly the fastest means of promoting businesses as you can speak to millions of people within the shortest time.

• Education: Social media is a strong source of education. It gives us access to professionals in various fields where both teachers and learners knowledge is enhanced. YouTube and Twitter are good examples of social platforms where we can watch, listen and have access to educational content. Some educational benefits we can get from social media are access to different forms of educational resources and collaborative learning through WhatsApp, Facebook etc.

Hence, social media should be used.

Considering the benefits and importance of social media, subscribers should:

• Limit screen time: Social media is not a necessity. It is something we can do without. Therefore, limit screen time and engage yourself in other physical activities.

• Set boundaries: Go to the social with purpose, with direction and focus on why you are on the platform. Visit sites and read only information that concerns you.

• Block and report any side that posts trait or exposes you to illicit content.

• Disabled notifications to help you reduce the desire to log in.
