What do you understand by financial mistake?

Financial mistake is a bad decision taken that causes irrecoverable debt or unnecessary losses. We can make financial mistakes in so many ways, other than spending without planning and setting goals or making unforeseen risky investments.

I have had several financial mistakes as an infant mobile photographer. I have spent money on minor devices that didn't suit my niche, purchased courses that didn't help, and made other financial decisions that I later realized were not necessary.

Have you made a financial mistake before? Kindly share with us your experience

Yes, I have made a financial mistake before, and this happened in 2024. I contacted a well-known digital photographer in my state and told him about my passion for photography and how much I would love to learn more from him. I also asked how much it would cost to learn from him, and we agreed on a certain price for the training fee. I made the payment afterward.

A few days after making the payment, while I was still schooling at the University of Uyo, the digital photographer I paid to learn from travelled out of the state. He then gave me the number of one of his students to lecture me instead. I was really pissed because this was not what I had agreed to, and I felt like my money was already gone.

The most painful part was that the student lived far away from my location, which made the whole situation even more difficult for me. I eventually got tired of the whole mess and asked for a refund, but till today, I have received neither a response nor a refund.

Looking back, I realized that I made a financial mistake by rushing to make the payment without properly considering all the necessary details and making sure everything was well arranged beforehand.
From this experience, I learned that I should not rush into making financial decisions, especially when it involves a large amount of money. I should take my time to ask questions, understand the agreement properly, and make sure everything is clear before making any payment.

What lessons did you learn from your mistake and what advice would you give your readers?

My advice to readers is to always do proper research before spending your money. Don't make financial decisions out of excitement or because you are eager to achieve something just like I did. Take your time, verify the person or service you are paying for, understand what you are getting in return, and make sure you are comfortable with the agreement before making payment. This can help prevent unnecessary financial losses and regrets.

Thank you for going through my contest❣️

A very relatable and valuable experience! Sometimes we make financial decisions out of excitement or eagerness, without properly checking all the details first. I can relate to this because I have also experienced a scam , which taught me to be much more careful with my financial decisions.

Your experience is a great reminder that we should always do proper research, verify the person or service, and understand everything clearly before sending money. The lesson you learned is definitely worth sharing with others. Thank you for sharing this valuable experience!
