In your own understanding, define who an ingrate is.

An ingrate, in my understanding is a person who consistently fails to appreciate the kindness, support,or sacrifices others make for them. It goes beyond simply forgetting to say thank you. An ingrate often develos a mindset where help from others is seen as something they deserve rather than something given out of goodwill. Because of this, they rarely acknowledge efforts made on their behalf and may even downplay or ignore them completely.

What makes someone an ingrate is not just a single act of ingratitude, but a pattern of behaviour for example, a person might receive financial help, emotional support, guidance, or opportunities from others, yet show no recognition or appreciation. Instead of expressing gratitude, they may complain, act entitled, or even turn against the very people who helped them. I'm some cases, they might believe that what was done for them was not enough, or that more should have been given.

Have you ever dealt with one in the past? if yes, kindly share your experience.

In every day life, many people encounter moments where they feel their kindness was not appreciated. For instance, imagine when I supported a freind during his difficult times by lending money, offering emotional support, and sacrificing my comfort for him just to help him succeed.

At the beginning, the receiver of that kindness may seems grateful, thankful, and even dependent on the help. But over time, something may change. In some cases, once the person being helped becomes more stable or successful, their attitude may shift. Instead of remembering the support they received, they may start acting as though they achieved everything alone.

There are also situations where the ingratitude is not intentional but still painful. For example, someone may genuinely forget the sacrifices others made for them because they have moved on to new environments, new friends, or a different lifestyle. Even though the forgetfulness might not be meant to hurt, the original helper may still feel undervalued or ignored. People who have dealt with such experiences often describe a mix of emotions, hurt, confusion, and regret.

What lessons did you learn from your experience with that ingrate?

One of the first lessons is that not everyone will value your effort the way you expect. People receive help through the lens of their own mindset, entitlement levels, or emotional maturity. So even when you do something genuinely kind, the response may still be disappointment or ingratitude. Another important lesson is setting boundaries early. Many people realize too late that they gave too much time, money, emotional support without clearly defining limits.

People learn to observe patterns instead of reacting to single moments. One ungrateful act might be a misunderstanding, but repeated disgraced usually signals a deeper issue in the relationship. Finally many conclude that your kindness should be guided by wisdom, not just emotions. Being good to people is valuable, but it should not come at the cost of your peace or self respect.

Would you do good to others regardless in spite of your past experience with an ingrate?

Yes, but not in the same way, and not without wisdom. When someone has experienced ingratitude, especially after giving help sincerely, it leaves a natural emotional scar. The instinct that follows is often if people don't appreciate good, why should I keep doing good? That reaction is human, but it doesn't have to become your long term standard for how you treat others.

Doing good despite past experiences with an ingrate is possible, but it should be guided by maturity, not naivety. Goodness is about your character, not their respond, if your kindness depends entirely on people being grateful, then your actions because it reflects who you are not because you are guaranteed appreciation. I therefore invite @bossj23, @christabella and @peacemike to participate in the contest.
