"Life in my city"
So far this year, is there something new in your city you would like to share with us? Fuel increase, price of things, a protest, a robbery or any other gist. |

My name is @dhizy from Akwa ibom state, Nigeria. So far this year In Akwa ibom state, there have been several noticeable changes and experiences that are worth sharing. Life here is still peaceful compared to many other places, but the reality of the economy is being felt strongly by everyone, from student to traders and families.
So the price of fuel now in Akwa ibom state is #160 per litre which is approximately 0.6 STEEM and the price of fuel now have made things cost. One of the major issues affecting people in uyo and other parts of the state is the steady increase in the price of fuel. Petrol is no longer something people buy without thinking. The rise in fuel has affected transportation and is something everyone feels daily.
Transport fares within Uyo town have increased, and traveling to nearby local government areas now costs more than it used to. For students and workers who move around every day, this has become a serious challenge. Because of the increase in fuel, the prices of food items have also gone up, in local markets like Itam market traders complain about the high costs of transportation goods from farms and other states.
Another thing people are talking about is the general cost of living. House rent, electricity bills, and even small daily expenses have increased. Although Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company supplies electricity to the state, power supply is still not very stable, and many residents rely on generators. This means more spending on fuel, which adds to the financial burden.
Can you say you have made any progress so far this year? Tell us about it. |
|---|
Yes, I can confidently say I have made progress so far this year even if it hasn't been perfect or without challenges. One of the biggest areas of growth for me has been in self development and consistency. I have become more intentional with with how I spend my time, making sure I focus on things that add value to my life instead of just going through each day without direction.
I have also made progress in handling challenges better. In the past, I might have felt overwhelmed easily, but this year I have been learning to stay calm, trying to move out of Nigeria to see if other countries is hard like this my country. I also think things through, and find solutions instead of panicking. This shift on my mindsets has helped
Another area of progress is in my relationships and communication. I have become more open, more understanding, and more willing to connect with people in a positive way. Building better connections has helped me learn from others and also share my own experiences more confidently. Financially and academically, I have been trying to stay more disciplined even if the progress feels slow, I can see that in improving step by steps.
If you have an opportunity of making your city better what will you do? |
|---|
If I had the opportunity to make my city better, the first thing I would focus on is improving basic amenities and security. A good city is not just about beautiful roads or tall buildings, but about making life easier, safer, and more comfortable for the people living there. Many cities today face challenges like bad roads, poor drainage, unstable electricity, lack of clean water, unemployment, and insecurity
If these things are not properly addressed, life becomes stressful for everyone. One of the first changes I would is to repair roads and improve transportation. Good roads make movement easier, reduce accident, and help businesses grow by because people can travel and transport goods without difficulty. I would also ensure proper drainage system are built so that during the rainy season, flooding will not destroy homes and properties.
Another important area I would work on is youth empowerment and job creation. Many young people in the city are talented and hardworking, but they lack opportunities. I would create skills acquisition centers where youths can learn useful skills such as tailoring, banking, graphics design, hairdressing, carpentry, coding and other vocational skills. I would also support small businesses with grants or low interest loans so that people can start something.
I would also pay close attention to healthcare and sanitation. A better city should have clean surroundings, good hospital, and proper waste disposal system. I would organise regular environmental sanitation and make sure there are enough public waste bins to keep the city clean. Cleanliness helps prevent diseases and make the environment more attractive. Education would also be one of my top priorities. I would improve public schools by providing better classroom, and learning materials.
Let's say you are given a choice to decide to leave your city to another city better than your current one and would be sponsored or you are given a huge amount of money to stay back in your city, what will be your choice? And why? |
|---|
I would likely choose to move to the new city with sponsorship, rather than staying back for the money. Moving to a better city usually means better infrastructure, education, work opportunities, and overall quality of life. While money can solve immediate problems, it doesn't guarantee long term personal and professional development.
Staying in your current city for money may feel safe but comfort can lead to educational career, or lifestyle upgrades that over time could be far more valuable than the upfront cash. Choice depends on personal priorities, if someone's immediate responsibility is financial survival or family support, staying for the money might make sense. I therefore invite @christabella, @bossj23, and @peacemike to participate in the contest.
