What does it mean to be "true to yourself"?

Being true to yourself entails acting out of genuine belief, desire, and your own set of standards as opposed to others or the public standard; it is the act of being genuine-speaking from your own heart when everyone else speaks out. It is a state that requires profound self-knowledge because you have to know why you do things and also you have to admit when you aren't great at things without trying to cover it up.

When you're true to yourself, your outside self lives according to the inner self; a real life calling is what you chose and therefore you enjoy it, the relationships are what you choose so they seem right and the interests are what your heart desires. It doesn't mean you have to have something to prove but that the outside world of your life can authentically reflect who you truly are.

Why is it important for people to keep their promises?

It forms the basis of interpersonal trust, personal and social stability. A person who keeps his word is one of integrity and reliability; this gives others a sense of assurance. As the saying goes, 'consistency is key'. This is true in our personal lives where keeping promises solidifies friendships and familial bonds and gives people a feeling of comfort and security when interacting with us.

The contrary is also true. Breaking of promises can cause permanent psychological damage and lead to bitterness or a feeling of being let down. On a wider scale, keeping promises is important in any organization and social structure, facilitating effective collaboration. In a nutshell, keeping one's word has something to do with one's character. It is an indicator of self control, of how much one values other people and ultimately is an intangible form of social capital.

What's the difference between being honest and being nice?

Where is the line then between being nice and being honest? Simply put, the biggest difference between the two is intention vs. Effect. Nice is defined as, social courtesies designed to smooth over social relations. We do nice things in order to make other people happy and if that means not telling the truth, then so be it. Nice people know how to comfort others and aren't going to have to make anything awkward by not being honest. Nice can act like oil but can also feel a little empty.

Being honest is being a person of integrity and being yourself and being in right instead of what is easy to do or make others feel. "Nice looks at what people feel right in the moment, honest looks at what people need to know in the long run." Being kind is the only way to having a fantastic communication: "saying what's on your mind with honesty, but also saying it with kindness."

If yourfriend asked you to lie for them to get out of trouble, would you do it? Why or why not?

To me I will say that by lying for a friend you are sacrificing honesty for loyalty. The natural inclination is to protect and defend your friend but normally I would refuse to lie.
Genuine friendship depends on honesty. By lying to conceal a friend's actions, you are betraying yourself and your friend by not letting him or her admit what he or she did. If you were to offer comfort when the lie is confessed and try to see him or her through it truthfully, then that would be genuine friendship.
