Self -Control
Briefly explain this topic self control to a layman.
Having self control means you can control what you are thinking and how you are feeling and what you are doing. This is especially important when things get tough or when you really want to do something that's not right. Self control is, like having a voice inside of you that says, "Hey stop and think before you do something." For example when you get mad self control is what helps you not yell at people. You feel mad. You do not yell and that is self control.
Self control helps you do the thing.
If you want something. You do not buy it because you do not have the money, that is self control too. Self control helps people make choices and not do things that they will be sorry about later. Self control is what helps you make decisions and avoid doing things that you will regret.
How do you know someone that has self control ?
When you see someone with self control you can tell by the way they behave. This kind of person is usually really calm. They think things through when things get tough. They do not just react on impulse. They let their thoughts take over every time something happens, not their emotions. They take a moment to think before they do something. People with self control can wait for things they want like saving money of spending it right away. They keep working towards their goals even when it gets really hard. People with self control also know how to deal with problems in a way and own up to what they do rather than pointing fingers at someone else. Self control is something that helps them in all these situations.
Is self control a behavior or is it learned? Support your answers with facts.
Self control is not something you are born with it is something you learn. Research in psychology shows that while people may be born with personalities, self control can be developed over time through training, environment and experience. There was a study called the "marshmallow test" that showed children who learned to wait for things they wanted did better in life later on. They did better in school. Were healthier. This shows that self control can be taught and made stronger through practice, parenting, education and personal effort.
How far can you control yourself in the face of temptation and challenges?
In the face of temptation and challenges self control can be tested,. It is possible to manage yourself to a great extent. Personally one can aim to stay in control by setting goals avoiding unnecessary temptations and practicing discipline daily. For example when faced with peer pressure or emotional stress taking a moment to think breathing deeply or walking away, from the situation can help maintain control.
In the end being, in control of yourself is a skill that helps people make choices have healthy friendships and do well in the long run. Self control is a life skill that helps people make decisions maintain healthy relationships and achieve long-term success. While self control may not come easily to everyone self control can definitely be improved if you try hard and practice it.
