My Neighborhood Watch 142 - Reporting Events Around us

CULTURAL DAY RALLY

I was in keke the other day, and from the popular water fountain ⛲️ area along Nwaniba Road and four lanes or Edet Akpan Avenue in Uyo, i was observing go slow and a kind of congestion of vehicles. At first, I thought the police were on duty as usual, blocking the road with tyres, leaving only a narrow path for the passage of cars, keke, and others.

Movement on one side of the road wasn't easy. But as we were able to slowly go forward, I saw the Federal Road Safety leading the line filled with unrecognized children dressing up in adults and cultural regalia. Going closer, they were attracting the attention of passerby and commuters, which has been the reason for the traffic from about 5 poles apart.

As I was passing them from the front direction, I remembered the neighborhood watch contest, and I made up my mind to cut short my journey and know what was going on and be able to report the same to my fellow Steemians. This is where l will pause a second to appreciate the motivation in this contest and likewise give kudos to @xkool24 for this extraordinary idea “neighborhood watch”. The security in it, the awareness of where one is, and other areas of impact are real in this contest.

I told the keke man to drop, I paid him and I had the privilege of enjoying the cultural display of the catholic school pupils who divided themselves into the tribes in Nigeria, representing their culture in dressing and dancing. Their attires were beautiful, like I said. They were unrecognized from head to toe. I saw kings and queens and representation of professions and careers of life.

The most interesting was how people parked to watch them and other schools appreciating what was done. I stood there until they all passed. One word the onlookers said “ayaiya o” is Ibibio meaning ‘it's beautiful o’. Actually, ayaiya. They did not only display the cultural heritage, but they were trained on how to walk majestically and kingly.
